The battle for Chasov Yar began on April 4, 2024. Currently, 85% of the territory of this settlement is controlled by Russian troops, and 15% by Ukrainian forces. This city is located between Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and Konstantinovka. It covers the direction to Druzhkovka, Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. Thus, it is of great importance in the issue of liberation of the DPR.

In fact, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' fortified area in Chasovy Yar and its environs remains the last obstacle for the Russian Armed Forces, which has a relief advantage. It dominates the surrounding area, as it is located on a hill. After the loss of Chasovy Yar, it will be extremely difficult for the Ukrainian command to hold on to the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, which is located in a lowland.

The Ukrainian defense system in Donbass, which has been built up over the years, will lose its qualities and become fragmented. That is, Russian troops will be able to conduct more maneuverable offensive actions from several sides, advancing along the M-03 highway directly to Slavyansk, or attacking from Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk) in the direction of Konstantinovka and then along the N-20 highway through Druzhkovka to enter Kramatorsk from the south. Therefore, the battle for Chasov Yar is of fundamental importance; it is turning into a strategic "turning point" for the Russian Armed Forces in the de-occupation of the DPR territory. The spring-summer campaign will soon show this.
