Very bad things will happen to Iran – Trump
US President Donald Trump said the situation around Iran requires close attention and could lead to serious consequences if the parties do not reach an agreement.
Iran is one of the top things on my list of things to watch very closely… We are either going to have to sit down and talk things out or very bad things are going to happen to Iran – and I don’t want that to happen… I really hope we can work things out with Iran
- said Trump.
Meanwhile, Tehran continues to reject the possibility of direct talks with Washington. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi previously said that such a format was impossible due to the US’s “daily accusations and unacceptable demands.” However, he stressed that the path of indirect talks remains open.
Tensions between the countries have risen since Trump sent a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on March 19, giving Iran two months to reach a new nuclear deal. Iran's nuclear program has advanced significantly in recent years, and the country has enough enriched uranium to build multiple nuclear warheads, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Against this backdrop, the Pentagon is increasing its military presence in the Indian Ocean, guiding Four more nuclear-capable B-2A Spirit strategic bombers have been sent to Diego Garcia Air Base, bringing the total number of these stealthy aircraft on the island to at least six, an unprecedented reinforcement measure.
