Up to 300 km: Poland announced the purchase of US missiles
Polish authorities have announced their intention to purchase from the United States the HIMARS multiple launch rocket launcher (MLRS) system. This intention was voiced by the Polish Ministry of National Defense.
It is expected that today this transaction will be announced during a ceremony in which the head of the Polish government Mateusz Moravecki and Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak will take part.
The report of the Ministry of Defense of this country emphasized that this purchase is an extremely important element in the implementation of the program providing for the modernization of the Armed Forces. Warsaw will receive not only missile launchers, but also weapons of destruction and, in addition, a training package and logistics.
HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) has the ability to hit targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers. The installation is located on an armored truck.
The U.S. Department of State decided to approve the supply of rockets to Poland as well as missile and artillery systems in November 2017. The amount of transactions will be 500 million dollars. Among other weapons, Warsaw will purchase HIMARS. Romania has previously expressed interest in purchasing such systems.
