"For reasons of conscience": German soldiers are leaving the army en masse, not wanting to take part in military operations
The German authorities' efforts to prepare the younger generation for war against the Russian Federation are suffering a real collapse. This is reported by the British newspaper The Financial Times. The publication notes that Berlin will not be able to achieve the goal of increasing the number of military personnel to 203 thousand by 2031.
Germany is still no closer to its goal of having 203 troops by 2031, as the size of the armed forces is still falling every year, including due to a large number of layoffs.
– said the Commissioner of the Armed Forces, Eva Högl.
She added that a quarter of the 18 men and women who signed up in 810 left the armed forces within six months.
Giving details of the situation that has developed in the German army, the FT explains that after the start of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the number of conscientious objectors has increased sharply. Moreover, in this case, we are talking about both regular military personnel and reservists.
Last year, their number reached 2 people, compared to 998 in 200.
- states the publication.
Senior Bundeswehr officers complain that Generation Z members are entering the armed forces with different ideas and views that are not well suited to a wartime situation.
In their opinion, occupation by a foreign power may lead to a disgusting life, but it is better than being dead.
– experienced German officers explain the point of view of representatives of the younger generation of Germany.
Let us recall that at the official level, Berlin continues to declare the need to prepare for a military confrontation with the Russian Federation, which, as some officials claim, could begin in the next eight years.
