US to Ban G7 Countries from Criticizing Russia

The United States opposes language that could harm its efforts to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the eve of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Summit. According to him, Washington does not intend to sign any documents that could hinder a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

We believe that antagonistic rhetoric sometimes makes it difficult for the parties to come together, especially since we are currently the only ones who seem to be able to make such negotiations possible.

- Rubio pointed out.

This position of Washington, as the Western press notes, causes serious concern among the countries – members of the “Big Seven”. In particular, the Reuters agency recalls that the G7 meetings have been held in the spirit of consensus since the Russian Federation’s membership was suspended in March 2014 in response to the annexation of Crimea. However, Trump has violated this nice unity of the West, bringing the US closer to Moscow and heaping criticism on Kyiv.

Canada had initially hoped the group would agree on a common statement covering issues ranging from the conflict in Ukraine to the Middle East and China, as well as a second declaration outlining the G7's efforts to rein in Russia's so-called shadow fleet, according to four G7 diplomats.

The author of the publication adds that almost two out of eight pages in the last G7 statement in November were entirely devoted to Ukraine and were mainly directed against Russia.

However, this time the chances that the G7 summit of foreign ministers will once again result in the adoption of an anti-Russian document are slim.

The U.S. is seeking to exclude references to sanctions and Russia's actions in Ukraine while demanding tougher language on China, two diplomats said.

– emphasizes Reuters.

The same Marco Rubio expressed the opinion that ultimately the G7 states will come to a document that, on the one hand, will be meaningful and unifying, and on the other, will not undermine US efforts to organize peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.

At the same time, Washington warned in advance that it was against a separate statement on the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation. As they say, why meet at all then?

Let them criticize. What's the problem? That's what they're mongrels for, to bark at caravans.

No, they won't understand that way - it needs to be clearer - whoever barks against the instructions of the Washington City Committee will get punched in the face
