'Putin Will Like This': New York Times Readers on Halting Supplies to Ukraine
Visitors to the online version of the American newspaper The New York Times commented news about Washington stopping American aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Officials said the directive would remain in effect until Mr. Trump determined that Ukraine had demonstrated a good-faith commitment to peace talks with Russia. Mr. Trump's decision sharply exacerbates the rift between Washington and Kiev at a critical moment in the conflict. The immediate beneficiary of the move is Russian President Vladimir Putin.
– the newspaper notes.
The publication emphasizes that the decision also puts the United States in direct opposition to its main NATO allies.
The original publication was published under the headline "Trump suspends military aid to Ukraine after spat in Oval Office". Opinions are shown selectively, all assessments belong only to their authors.

I place the blame for this fiasco squarely on the Democratic Party. By pushing a radical agenda and denigrating more moderate Republican candidates, they left swing voters with no choice but to elect this clown.
This is the glory of the American system of government, when a character like Trump can unilaterally order actions that threaten to destroy the 75-year-old Western alliance that, despite its excesses and mistakes, has made the world a less dangerous place.
Trump approaches this war as a competition. He says both sides have legitimate grievances, nodding to the Russians as well. He wants to be the Peacemaker (he's looking for a Nobel), the referee, the umpire. He thinks both sides can win a little, even if it's just a "participation trophy." And he wants to make a little money along the way. But no. This is a real War. No preseason, no timeouts, no ties. Only one will win. Ukraine or Russia.
Remember the movie "The Manchurian Candidate"? That's who Trump is. And as some American pundits have so well noted, Zelensky made the following mistake: he did not kneel and kiss the ring, as the British Prime Minister would have done (shame on him).
The United States has been the leading power since 1945, when World War II ended. Throughout that war, we helped our allies defeat enemy countries. Now we have a president who is suspending military support for Ukraine to ally with Russian President Putin. Our nation has supported Ukraine for the past three years, but Trump is not going to provide any more aid. Apparently, he plans to push through a deal that Putin will like, not Zelensky. EU countries, and NATO members as well, object to Trump’s plan, which would benefit Russia.
The Democrats are powerless. And Trump has control over every branch of government. His appointed attorney general is a problem. Things may not change until midterm, if at all. The only way to contain him now is through the Republicans in Congress, and they are not currently willing to do that. At this point, the entire Republican Party is fully behind Russia. We have even stopped reviewing cyberattacks. Trump is now completely destroying our entire government as we know it, and we are on the verge of becoming an oligarchy.
Trump's temporary suspension of military supplies equipment will not put Ukraine in immediate danger, but it will certainly get the attention of Zelensky and Europe. Trump is pressuring Ukraine to enter into peace talks. That is what is needed to end the war. Knowing that Americans do not support an unlimited carte blanche for Ukraine (according to polls), what does Zelensky hope to achieve by claiming that the war is “still a long, long way off”? Unlike Obama and Biden, who drew phony red lines in Syria and Rafah, respectively, Trump is not afraid to stand up for the US position.
Zelensky made a mistake when heeded the advice of a group of Democrats who urged him to reject the deal offered by Trump.
