According to the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, by the end of April, the US Armed Forces Command plans to complete the withdrawal of troops from Syria. Referring to its sources among both current officials and former officials, the newspaper writes on its website that by mid-March, most of the US contingent will leave Syria.

The command believes that forces on Syrian soil, which are being supported by the United States, will soon be able to take control of the territories that are being held by the militants of the Islamic State (a terrorist organization banned in Russia).

However, the sources of the publication report that the administration of the head of state Donald Trump has not yet developed a clear plan of action to protect the Kurdish forces operating in Syria. What will happen to them after the US troops are withdrawn is not yet clear.

It is possible, however, that the American leadership may adjust the timetable for the withdrawal of military personnel from the Syrian Arab Republic. Now in this country there are about two thousand US troops. They were introduced there without the consent of official Damascus.

US President Donald Trump announced the need to leave Syria last year after disagreements arose between him and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the Kurdish issue. According to many media then, it was after a conversation between Trump and Erdogan that the American leader announced his decision to withdraw troops.

In January of this year, Trump threatened Erdogan that if US-backed Kurdish forces were attacked by Turkey, economic measures would be taken against that country. At the same time, the US President urged the Kurds not to provoke Ankara.

According to Trump, in the north of Syria, it is necessary to form a buffer zone with a width of about 32 kilometers. Erdogan also spoke in favor of creating such a zone. Meanwhile, the leadership of Syria itself is categorically opposed to the fact that external forces make such decisions in their country.
