Tupolev vs. Boeing: supersonic confrontation is growing

10
Just a week ago, we wrote that PJSC Tupolev started developing engines for supersonic civil liners. Tests of the prototype of the aircraft are scheduled for 2027. And now, it became known that the domestic aviation giant has a serious competitor. The creation of its version of a supersonic business jet was announced by Boeing. Moreover, the latter will act in conjunction with Aerion.

Recall that in civil aviation there was already a supersonic aircraft model called Concord. However, the British-French project had many shortcomings that did not allow him to take root in the industry. For example, the device could not be called a model of efficiency and safety, and because of the noise during take-off of the aircraft, a shock wave was created around it.

All these shortcomings were promised to be corrected by American designers in the new model of the 12-seater supersonic airliner, which will be called Aerion AS2. According to the developer, three Affinity engines from GE Aviation will be installed in it, which will allow the device to accelerate to Mach 3 (1,4 km / h). A new type of unit works through the detonation process, where the combustion front propagates faster than sound. And to reduce noise values will help the "advanced" design of the aircraft body.

Unlike PJSC Tupolev, Boeing and Aerion intend to send their offspring to the sky already in 2023, and start mass sales in 2025. Will the designers be able to realize their plans and whose plane will be better - time will tell. However, the appearance of improved supersonic airliners will undoubtedly open up new development prospects for civil aviation.

    - why the hell are they needed? nowhere to put money?

The problem is that the power of Boeing with Aerion is 100 times greater than ours, passenger turnover too,
Yes, and Concord really flew for 20 years.
So that they can pay 500 thousand rubles for a flight en masse only over a hill ... and build quickly too

We are talking about the business budget, so the passenger turnover has nothing to do with it, especially "ours".
In general, the project is purely marketing, I think, to make myself known (about the UAC in general) in the market, to make an image flagship. There is something reasonable in this.

Good to you, discerned the reasonable. But I, except the desire to cut and pull apart, do not see anything. Otherwise, what prevents the production of domestic aircraft? That's right - premium Boeing and Airbus.

The low-noise supersonic airliner X-59 QueSST was developed by engineers from the United States Aerospace Agency. Assembly of the first samples has already begun at the Lockheed Martin contractor's plant in Palmdale, California. And Boeing introduced the prototype XB-1 last year

The author does not know what he is writing about. Firstly, in addition to Concord, the Soviet Tu-144 was in operation, albeit not for long. Secondly, the shock wave was not during takeoff, but during the transition to supersonic, this was already happening over the Atlantic.

Unlike PJSC Tupolev, Boeing and Aerion intend to send their offspring to the sky as early as 2023

Over the hill, dates are rarely shifted, unlike us! Maybe the competition will spur development at least a bit and make us move?

In the picture, the plane is some kind of supersonic
