Copenhagen will cease resistance to the Nord Stream-2
Denmark so far opposes the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which, passing through the Baltic Sea, will connect Russia and Germany. But, as expected, by mid-July 2019, Copenhagen will still issue a permit to lay the pipeline. Such information was shared at a press conference in Vienna by Manfred Leitner, executive member of the board of directors of the Austrian oil and gas company OMV. (This company is a key partner of Gazprom and a sponsor of the Nord Stream 2 project).
Denmark has received a relevant application, but its consideration is not limited to any period. This, Leitner noted, creates uncertainty. But OMV is optimistic.

Earlier, the head of the Danish government, Lars Löcke Rasmussen, said that the gas pipeline would damage his statehood. He is also dissatisfied with the fact that Europe’s dependence on Russian “blue fuel” will increase. In addition, Copenhagen is worried that Nord Stream 2 will hit Ukraine and reduce its role in gas transit.
Judging by the words of the representative of OMV, it is possible that the authorities of this country will still prefer to get their own benefit than to defend the interests of Kiev, which are doubtful for Copenhagen. Even if this does not happen, there is an alternative pipeline route for which Danish permission is not necessary.

The Danish authorities are in no way limited by the time frame, and this introduces some uncertainty. But we assume that permission from them should be obtained by the middle of this year.
