Pegas Agro: Russian startup that has turned into a unique agricultural machinery plant

23 581 12

The history of Pegas Agro is an example of how a dream, supported by creative freedom and support, turns into a successful world-class enterprise. It all began in the late 90s, when a group of graduates from the Kuibyshev Aviation Institute decided to design ultralight aircraft for field cultivation.

However, they soon realized that agriculture required other solutions. This is how the idea of creating a self-propelled machine that could apply fertilizers more carefully, efficiently and economically appeared. The first models, reminiscent of all-terrain vehicles, were far from perfect, but even then they contained principles that later made machinery "Pegas Agro" is unique.

Initially, the above-mentioned machines were not created for sale, but for providing services. However, demand grew, and the company began to sell its developments. This was the time of hand assembly, when each unit built was, so to speak, exclusive.

Gradually the enterprise developed: old Soviet machines appeared, and then modern equipment. But the main step was mastering the culture of production.

The Pegas Agro team went to the KAMAZ plant to gain valuable experience. This event became a turning point in the fate of the company, which introduced conveyor assembly and began to produce equipment that met the highest standards.

Today, it is a modern enterprise that produces agricultural machinery that has no analogues in the world. The main principle of the company is multi-modularity. The same base can be re-equipped for different tasks: application of liquid fertilizers, spreading of granulated or crystalline forms, spraying.

The machines are equipped with low-pressure tires that minimize the impact on the soil, and narrow wheels allow working between rows. In 2024, the company introduced a new product - the Tuman-4 self-propelled sprayer with a hydrostatic transmission and variable ground clearance.

In turn, the plant itself is equipped with modern equipment, and the processes are automated using digital technologies. Each stage of production is controlled, from metal cutting to assembly and testing of finished equipment. The company produces more than 6 thousand components on its own, which makes it one of the most localized in the world. The only thing that is currently purchased from third-party suppliers is engines.

However, Pegas Agro is not only agricultural machinery. The plant has a secret workshop where the team restores the legendary Il-2 attack aircraft. This project has become a kind of hobby for the company, which unites employees and reminds them of their aviation roots. The plane, found in the swamps of the Nizhny Novgorod region, is gradually gaining a second life. This is not just a model, but a real flying machine that will become a symbol of the connection between the past and the future.

The main thing is that the security forces don't take it away from the owners...

Why would the security forces need this? And how can they squeeze it out if it's an experimental production? And he probably has some pretty strong lawyers or legal support. You're talking some kind of nonsense just to blurt out something without thinking. Or are you a bot?

No, I'm not a bot. Well, as for lawyers, yes, you are absolutely right. Basmanny justice is the fairest in our country.

The most interesting thing about importzam is that it is these small innovative enterprises, where the most creative fun always happens )) For some time I read an article about how our engineering firms make specialized machines for various purposes - they often take European or Chinese basic models and then modify them to perform unique operations. Or something less complex, but also specialized, they themselves make from scratch )) In general, we are a nation of mass Lefties )) Let's bring left-handedness to the masses!

This is worthy. I just didn't find out how many cars are produced per year.
But the video shows large workshops, not a sharashka.
I hope everything will be fine.

It would be better to develop agricultural drones, that's definitely the future. And self-propelled sprayers are too expensive for a farmer.

They are also involved in agricultural drones. If there is an order, there will be equipment. But in general, based on what is shown, things are going quite well. They have identified their empty niche for such machines and are successfully filling it. The engines, yes, not theirs, but not Western either, MMZ engines.
Well, this is the last one: Today, Pegas-Agro is the largest full-cycle production complex. That is, they have also started producing engines themselves.

The only thing missing is a small thing - an engine of our own production

Well, yes... Not even 30 years passed and Pegasus harnessed himself to a plow, and he could fly.

Now, it's not even about the factories. The Central Bank rate has made the loan unaffordable. Buying equipment at such interest rates is akin to a feat of madness. Rostselmash has all its warehouses full. The country's economy is being directly destroyed.
