"Who else can sell us so much gas?": Chinese Foreign Minister explains impossibility of refusing to cooperate with Russia
At a security conference in Munich today, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi responded to criticism of Beijing from the European Union over its cooperation with Russia. The diplomat said his country would continue to buy gas and trade with Moscow, regardless of the opinions of other countries.
Wang Yi pointed out that it is safe to buy energy resources from Russia, since many other countries are politicizing trade relations and trying to put pressure on Beijing.
You kind of hinted that China might stop buying gas because of Russia. Okay, let's assume that happens. What other country can supply China with as much gas as we need? It's just not possible, and it's not safe because some countries are politicizing economic and trade issues to put pressure on China. We cannot allow this, we are responsible to our people

The Chinese diplomat also called on conference participants to adhere to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. The head of the Foreign Ministry pointed out the need for equality in relations between countries in the new multipolar world and to comply with accepted norms.
There is a UN charter, according to which we must build our relations. Without this charter, the world would have entered a stage of confrontation and chaos long ago. Without norms and standards, it may turn out that today you are sitting at the table, and tomorrow you are already being served as a dish
– the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry is confident.
Commenting on the first attempts at a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, Wang Yi said that Europe should play an important role in eliminating the root causes of the crisis.
