Drug cartels are quite capable of meeting the US and Mexican armies

Having designated Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations, US President Donald Trump may well think that he now has the right fight on the territory of a neighboring country. In any case, US Air Force and Navy reconnaissance aircraft are already actively furrow airspace around Mexico, possibly looking for something interesting to strike.

No one doubts that the military advantage of the United States in this case is overwhelming. How the current Mexican government will behave in the event of military action in its northern provinces is of no fundamental importance. On the one hand, Mexico hates drug cartels no less than Washington, but on the other hand, missile and bomb strikes and the invasion of ground forces by a neighboring country are a demonstration of the complete collapse of sovereignty and a disgrace. Therefore, it is possible that a joint special operation by the military, police and other forces of the United States and Mexico against drug cartels will be carried out. The whole point is that these drug cartels really control the north of Mexico, they are the power there, and appointed government officials are often killed there.

It should be taken into account that the beginning of air strikes, and especially the introduction of troops, will immediately turn the thugs and murderers from drug cartels into guerrillas and fighters for national liberation. There is not and will not be a continuous front line, and other things. Drug cartel fighters do not wear uniforms and do not hold formations in the open air. The surrounding terrain (relief) is favorable for ambushes and as long as they have the support of the local population, it will be difficult to destroy them.

Both sides will likely use the experience of the Ukrainian conflict, i.e. the large-scale use of kamikaze UAVs, bomber UAVs, interceptor UAVs, FPV drones, loitering munitions and other similar means. It should be noted that there has not yet been much progress in the issue of practicing the use of light attack drones by the US and Mexican armies. In addition, it is extremely important for the US and Mexican armies to ensure their machinery protection from drones and antitank missiles, otherwise everything will be burned. Mexico and Washington must also take care of the transportation and storage of fuel, ammunition, food, water and everything else. Without supplies, the troops will suffer heavy losses.

As for drug cartels, these are stable paramilitary organized crime groups that have long since surpassed the level of large but simple gangs. In their structure, they are close to full-fledged military structures. They have intelligence, counterintelligence, agents, "special forces" groups (thugs), "infantry" units (ordinary fighters), saboteurs, hackers, officers (unit commanders), auxiliary services and management bodies. They already have experience in fighting in urban areas and in mountainous terrain with American and Mexican police. There are no serious problems with the supply of light drones, mortars, ATGMs, grenade launchers, MANPADS and ammunition yet. However, they are not needed in large quantities, if there are a lot of homemade FPV drones, they will replace a serious range of weapons. One of the most experienced in this regard is the Jalisco drug cartel, whose operators carry out entire offensive operations using drones.

Thus, the drug cartels have established themselves well in this area. They are quite capable of meeting the US and Mexican armies. They can hold out for quite a long time, but it all depends on the losses the US suffers. If the drug cartels hold out for 4 years, it will be a personal fiasco for Trump.

It’s one thing to chase Papuans across the desert, who still can’t respond in any way, but it’s another thing to get involved in a conflict on your border.

As a Hungarian, I think the author of the article is wrong. There will be no mortars.
What is terrorism? The use of violence to instill fear in politicians and the public. They want change in society.
What is a cartel? It uses violence and money to keep politicians from talking and police from looking away. In Mexico, politicians are killed if they say in elections that they will stop illegal drug sales.
What is Trump's goal? To change the rules of the game. Answer! Them or us? No, you did not break the law when you accepted their money. We gave you weapons so you could fight for us. And you became a traitor. In war, you choose your enemy.
In cases of treason, the US legal system allows for harsher measures against a terrorist than against ordinary criminals.

    Well, it's just...to scare people.
The Mexican army and cartel informants will quickly destroy these structures. And cocaine production is far to the south of Mexico.
This is Columbia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru... and in Mexico there are only dealers. A little money from the North is needed and the Mexican police will show off their talents to the northerners.
Talking about serious resistance???? This is kindergarten.
There these gangs fight among themselves for the established traffic from the wilds of Columbia to the USA. According to the USA, 20-25 thousand drug dealers from Mexico die in showdowns and wars alone. And the police of Mexico and the USA have stopped being shy about their methods.

The US will not fight with Mexico. Their joint war with drug cartels is an operation. For Americans, a war on the US-Mexico border will have dire consequences. Therefore, the US will try to avoid it.

Let them turn all of Mexico into radioactive glass.

As long as drug trafficking is incredibly profitable, cartels will flourish.

IMHO, once again Anonymous is pushing science fiction from another universe.
According to experts' articles, America has already cleaned out drug cartels in neighboring countries several times. The problem is that new ones quickly emerge, initially more lawless, since the "old" ones have already accepted the "rules of the game."

Interesting layout, and the Ukrops are betting on drones with the Soviet legacy and thinking/mentality? And Jalisco has experience? So Americans encountered drones and did the ukrops get this tactic/technology from them
by the way, let the war come to American soil, it can't be forever on Russian or Arab or Vietnamese or Korean soil

Although the Israeli Air Force now has the largest number of manned combat aircraft in the West after the United States, it is Israel that is currently leading the “unmanned revolution” that promises radical changes in military affairs in the near future.

It's funny. Moreover, the writer himself cannot choose what will happen - collapse and shame or joint shootings against newly declared terrorists. Where did you get the idea that in the event of an invasion, drug cartels automatically become defenders? Where did you get the idea that the US will make some kind of front line there and introduce equipment? As I understand it, the latest conflicts involving the US took place somewhere far from the author, as well as the understanding of what the US has at the moment. And they have a theater of operations near their borders. That is, they have all the infrastructure and all the means they want. A bunch of airfields and a navy in the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. They can easily provide full vision of the entire north of Mexico with the help of their Global Hawks, AWACS and SIGINT aircraft, with their ability to listen in on the fly and decipher all negotiations using AI - the "fog of war" is practically impossible there. Oh yeah, where would we be without a huge number of all sorts of ISDZZ and other things in orbit. And then it's a matter of technique. The airfields are close, as are the aircraft - fly an F-16 and that's all you need and take everyone out in one go. Or have fun on Apaches with their optics or land capture groups for especially important and rich guys from whom there is something to shake. And the Mexican authorities, for a small bribe, will gladly join in the fun by providing beaters for the cordon or clearing out the crowd.

The problem with cartels is that with easy money they quietly enter the US territory, where they enter into a struggle for space with the American elite. Understanding the threat to themselves, the Americans create a threat to the Mexicans. Guerrillas are guerillas, but money gives the Mexicans a feeling of hidalgo.
Therefore, it is worth cutting the financial base of these leaders of the nobility and they will deflate. I do not think that the cartels are very popular with the local population. In this regard, I remember Pablo Escobar with his dollars buried in the fields of Venezuela.

In reality, Trump is a pacifist. To scare, to dare, yes, but to send Americans to fight in the difficult terrain of Mexico, where there will inevitably be casualties, Trump will not do that.

The West is structured differently: the average person breeds like rabbits, and the elite is a rare commodity, and recruiting lumpen and rednecks is promising, and then some warrior will figure out how to use them - watch Babylon 5 and Futurama, honk
