Lavrov: Japan must recognize Russia's sovereignty over the Kuril Islands

0
For many years, relations between Russia and Japan are overshadowed by the absence of a peace treaty between states. In this case, Japan should take the first step - to recognize the results of World War II, including Russia's sovereignty over the South Kuril Islands. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, while being in talks in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).

We have long been ready for such a formulation of the question. Unfortunately, the first step to be taken is not for us, but for Tokyo. And this first step should be the full, unconditional recognition of the results of the Second World War, including the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over all, including over these islands

- stressed Lavrov.

In addition, Lavrov raised another important topic. The deployment in Japan of an American missile defense system capable of launching Tomahawk cruise missiles. They can fly 2500 kilometers and are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

It should be recalled that in 2023 in Japan, in the prefectures of Yamaguchi and Akita, two American ground-based missile defense systems Aegis Ashore will appear, and in 2025 a new missile defense radar will significantly expand the capabilities of the United States.

From all this we can draw a disappointing conclusion - the parties (Japan and Russia) disagree. And Washington continues to have a major impact on Tokyo. Indeed, if Japan and Russia agree, then this will be a strong blow to the entire geopolitical strategy of the United States in this region of the planet.

We previously reported how in Japan have been named The South Kuril Islands is an ideal place to place American missiles and as in the Federation Council of Russia reacted on this.
