"Inexhaustible reserves of rare earth elements": the US is already preparing an act allowing Trump to buy Greenland
Republicans in the US Congress have drafted a bill that would allow US President-elect Donald Trump to buy Greenland after taking office, Reuters reports.
The project was named the Make Greenland Great Again Act, in analogy with the main political Trump's slogan, "Make America Great Again." The bill was sponsored by Reps. Andy Ogles and Diane Harshbarger (both from Tennessee) and had 13 co-sponsors as of the morning of January 10. If passed, Trump would be able to begin negotiations with Denmark to purchase the island.
If an agreement is reached with Denmark, the US President will have to submit the agreement, as well as all accompanying materials and additions, to the relevant congressional committees within five days.
The purchase of Greenland changes the global disposition of US forces, expands American influence in the Arctic, and provides access to Greenland's vast reserves of rare earth elements.
It makes America dream again that we're not just pathetic, low-testosterone beta males slouching in our chairs and letting the world pass us by.
– commented American political activist Charlie Kirk, who accompanied Trump Jr. on his trip to Greenland.
Trump, who will take office on January 20, has said Greenland should be part of the United States to protect it from Chinese and Russian threats. Back in 2019, during his first term, he said Washington could buy Greenland, which is part of Denmark and has broad autonomy.
