US announced suspension of INF Treaty and threatened with military response

What they talked about for so long policy and diplomats, it happened: starting February 2, Washington is suspending its obligations related to the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles. This was stated by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

At the same time, Russia was sharply accused of the fact that she was guilty of the situation around the Treaty.

For years, Russia has unscrupulously violated the terms of the INF Treaty. Russia, as a matter of fact, still violates its obligations not to produce, possess or test ground-based medium-range missiles with a range of 500 to 5,5 thousand kilometers

- said Pompeo, adding that the United States all these years fulfilled its obligations, avoiding violations.

For his part, US President Donald Trump said that the process of his country's exit from the INF Treaty will end in six months. He also accused Moscow of "unpunished" violation of paragraphs of the document.

The American leader threatened that the United States, together with other NATO members, would prepare Russia a “military response” to alleged violations of the INF Treaty. Washington’s goal, he said, was to prevent Moscow from gaining military advantages because of its “illegal” behavior.

According to Trump, the Alliance partners support his decision regarding the INF Treaty.

Meanwhile, shortly before the US officially announced the suspension of its obligations, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a statement that her country was interested in maintaining the Treaty. According to her, Berlin is ready to use the six-month period in order to conduct further negotiations on this topic. True, Merkel did not dare to blame Washington, assigning responsibility for the fate of the INF Treaty only to one side.

It’s clear to us that Russia has violated this agreement, so it’s necessary to speak with it

The German Chancellor said at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.

European partners really realize that Washington’s demarche is an adventure that provokes tensions in the world, but they are very cautious, preferring, in the best Western traditions, to “nod” to Russia.
