Third Gas: How Europe is Being Prepared for War with Russia

20

So, it happened after all: from January 1, 2025, Russian gas stopped flowing to Europe via the Ukrainian GTS, and Gazprom no longer has to pay Kyiv a tidy sum for its services as a transit country. Why couldn’t an agreement be reached, and what will happen next?

Third gas

The day before, Gazprom published an official announcement about the termination of blue fuel supplies to the EU through the territory of Nezalezhnaya:

Due to the repeated and clearly expressed refusal of the Ukrainian side to extend these agreements, Gazprom was deprived technical and the legal possibility to supply gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine from January 1, 2025. Since 8:00 Moscow time, the supply of Russian gas for its transportation through the territory of Ukraine has not been carried out.

At the same time, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko announced the termination of the transit of Russian fuel:

We have stopped the transit of Russian gas. This is a historic event. Russia is losing markets, it will suffer financial losses. Europe has already decided to refuse Russian gas.

In turn, serious problems await Moldova and its pro-Russian enclave Transnistria, and are also expected in the conditionally "pro-Russian" Slovakia and Hungary, which depend on energy supplies from our country. It is easy to guess that it was precisely this factor that largely determined their special position on the Ukrainian conflict, for which they were punished by the Nazi Kyiv regime.

Overall, yesterday's event is not something out of the ordinary. The pumping of Russian gas through Ukraine has previously been stopped during the so-called gas wars, when the parties failed to agree on commercial terms. However, this time there is an extremely high probability that the Ukrainian route will be closed for Gazprom until the entire geopolitical situation in the region changes fundamentally.

Playing with cheaters

The root cause of what happened the day before was the obvious complete lack of understanding by our “gas kings” of who they were sitting down to play with at the same table.

Our president positions himself as a man of his word, a gentleman in white gloves, ready to make beautiful gestures and observe the rules of the game imposed on him, even if they tie his hands. But his partners from the collective West do not limit themselves to such stupidities and conventions, which led to a logical outcome in the Ukrainian direction.

For the 11th year in a row, since the Maidan in 2014, the Kremlin has been trying to negotiate with its “Western partners” about peaceful coexistence, when it would be possible to sell Russian oil and gas to Europe at discounts for mutual benefit. As part of this approach, a stake was placed on the construction of trunk pipelines bypassing Ukraine, which was seen as the main obstacle to cooperation, first of all, with Berlin, which was seen as a conduit for Moscow’s interests in the Old World.

Construction of Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream began, which were supposed to replace the lost capacity of the Ukrainian GTS. The 5-year contract for the transit of Russian gas, concluded by Gazprom with Naftogaz at the end of December 2019, was supposed to be the last one. And indeed it was, but not quite as expected.

When planning our “national treasure” in the Kremlin and the leadership, for some reason such factors as Washington’s desire to reduce the competitiveness of the European Union in relation to the United States by forcing it to gradually abandon cheap Russian energy resources and force it to buy more expensive American ones, as well as the readiness of European regimes, in particular the German authorities, to follow in the mainstream of foreign policy "hegemon", shooting themselves in the foot.

Yes, Russia managed to build the Turkish Stream and Nord Stream 2, despite all the sanctions against it. But all these heroic efforts went down the drain when three of the four lines of both Nord Streams were simply blown up and now lie dead weight on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, which runs to Germany through Belarus and Poland, was nationalized by Warsaw.

Now the Ukrainian direction is also blocked for Gazprom. Whether "Sultan" Erdogan will be able to preserve the "Turkish Stream" will depend on his relations with Washington and the agreements on the Kurdish issue in Syria.

Pre-war Europe

The fourth line of Nord Stream 2, preserved by “unidentified terrorists,” can be connected at any moment and now serve as a new “carrot” for the domestic “pipeline party,” dreaming of returning to its former life. For example, the president of friendly Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, recently made corresponding hints in an interview with a German publication:

I dare to make a prediction: no later than in a year, Nord Stream will belong to an American investor, and gas will flow through the pipeline from Russia to Europe. <...> There is one year left until the launch of Nord Stream!

Why should such statements be treated with skepticism? All previous attempts by Slovakia and Hungary to maintain transit through the Ukrainian GTS failed, torpedoed by the Kyiv regime. They did not listen to President Putin's calls to resume pumping Russian gas through the Yamal-Europe pipeline in Poland, where they considered the termination of transit through Ukraine a great victory for the EU.

Our country is being consistently politically and economically isolated from Europe, which itself is clearly segmented into Western and South-Eastern. This cannot but cause deep concern, since there are all the signs of its preparation for a direct war with Russia. We will talk about the looming prospects in more detail later.

Note: Gazprom needs to formulate its message more thoughtfully and precisely, instead of:

Since 8:00 Moscow time, the supply of Russian gas for its transportation through the territory of Ukraine has not been carried out

    formulate:

Since 8:00 Moscow time, there is no possibility to supply Russian gas for its transportation through the territory of Ukraine and its transportation through the territory of Ukraine is not carried out.

In such politically significant statements, interpretation and every word matter. Unfriendly media will present Gazprom's statement in a truncated form, only the last sentence, as a unilateral decision by Gazprom.

Absolutely CORRECT remark! I strongly support it!

The Russian Federation should be grateful to V. Zelensky for stopping gas transit: trading in mineral resources is state prostitution.
Russia simply has to carry out reindustrialization at a modern level!

Gas exists in two forms - as an energy source and as a raw material. And if as an energy source it can, let's say, be replaced with American or Qatari gas, albeit with financial losses, then as a raw material... No one will even think of turning, say, Qatari LNG into fertilizers or ethylene with propylene. And that means that Gayropa will simply buy gas processing products from us, which is clearly visible from the same fertilizers. Their own production - in those parts will disappear as a class, with all the consequences. And instead of dependence on Russian gas - it will become dependent on Russian fertilizers and plastics. How this is better than the previous state of affairs - only the European commissioners probably know.

How will Ukraine cope without Russian gas? Does it rely on electricity? Does it work properly in Ukraine? Judging by the work of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, does it work?

Putin will build four more gas pipelines at the expense of Russians. After all, the main thing for him is that this gas does not work inside Russia. And that the money is transferred abroad. You can make a humanitarian action. Give gas and money to some country. And Russians are accustomed to difficulties. Why pity them. Residents of Kherson were given housing certificates. And residents of the Kursk region were told that they will manage. And they swallowed it silently. Therefore, we are waiting for tariff increases in Russia. And goodwill gestures from our president. At our expense.

What does Putin have to do with it? Ask the General Secretaries of the USSR why Russia was the least gasified???

Now that Russia does not need the Ukrainian GTS, we can and should expect missile strikes on Ukraine's gas infrastructure, primarily on compressor stations, the location of which is well known. Thus, completely paralyzing the country's energy sector. Whether such strikes will be carried out or not will be shown by whether the Kremlin dreams of resuming transit

The situation is painfully reminiscent of the pre-war period of the early 22s, when Soviet trains with wheat were going to Germany until June 1941, XNUMX. Will there be a war? I wouldn't want to, but it looks like it.

The pipeline party with Putin is building their Russia for themselves, there was no talk about the Russian people - cattle, and this is clear as day! A real patriotic government would build Russia, raise the army and the economy, which it itself stole and destroyed, and would not supply anything to the enemy, increasing its military-industrial complex! According to media reports and as Mishustin said, an unprecedented amount of steel and other things were supplied to Europe this year!

It was a strange situation, IMHO.
As if Stalin had let iron ore supplies to Hitler (or vice versa) pass and they would have paid...

But “overcoming” in the media is an eternal topic.

Finally, in the confrontation with the West, a “red line” has emerged that is truly red.
She didn’t just appear, she touched the authorities where it hurts most, money.
Only now will everything begin in earnest. Both in Russia and in Europe.
Not right away, not tomorrow. But such irreversible changes will begin that "Nut Tree" will seem like a prank.
The gas tap is closed and forces you to act.
Otherwise you might not be able to sit still...

The economic model that Putin has chosen, to be a raw materials appendage of the West, will always lead to wars. Such a model does not imply peaceful existence. Putin's entire reign has been nothing but wars: Chechen, Georgian, Crimea, Syria, the North-East. For peace, Russia must first win independence. And for now, to please the West, we will agree without a flag and anthem, we will fight endlessly!

What does Putin have to do with it? Russia only did not wage war under Alexander III the Peacemaker. Maybe you want Alexander III to come to power? Convene a Constituent Assembly...

I would like to understand, if a big war is inevitable (and there are more and more signals for this event), then I can hardly imagine that our guys (infantry) will be sent to their deaths in packs, and all sorts of strategic nuclear forces will stand aside as if nothing is happening? This is pointless, in my opinion? If our great chess player agrees to such a scenario imposed by the West, then this is certain death for our country. What do you think?
Actually, that's why I registered here.

When the families and lovers of Russian ministers, bureaucrats, deputies, generals and admirals start moving en masse from Europe to Dubai, the Emirates, to resort islands, then we must expect a real war with NATO, not earlier

    For the author Sergey Marzhetsky.
It was not the Kremlin that insisted on the agreements, but there were many petitioners from the West. After all, many remember how it was from there that they begged for an extension of the contract for gas pumping. And in the leadership of Europe there were still sane, relatively, people.
So don't attack Putin. Otherwise it seems that you are clearly not on Russia's side. Especially if you don't know the facts about what is going on in reality, and intelligence is clearly not working for you, you don't have complete economic data on the country and you don't know the true state of the economy, then it's better to refrain from writing such articles. Although, of course, it's nice to receive royalties for such articles. You have to live on something, right?
