'The Greatest President in History': Newsweek Readers on Donald Trump's Greenland Plans

2

Associate Professor of the Royal Danish Military Academy, Mark Jacobsen, discusses the possible reasons for the interest in Greenland on the part of recently re-elected President Donald Trump in the pages of Newsweek magazine.

The deterioration of relations with China, Russia and other countries increases the current importance of Greenland, where vast deposits of rare earth elements are of particular interest to high-tech industries.

– Mr. Jacobsen believes.

He points out that while Copenhagen reacted rather harshly to Trump's views on Greenland during his first presidency, the Danish leadership may now prove to be much more accommodating on a number of issues.

Trump previously wrote in Truth Social:

The United States of America considers its ownership of Greenland to be essential to national security and world freedom.

Greenland, home to 56 people, has been part of Denmark since the 000th century. The island gained autonomy in 1979 and has been a self-governing state since 2009.

However, mainland Denmark still contributes two-thirds to Greenland's budget, and its unique geographical location allows the islanders to receive funding from the European Union as well.

The publication also notes that not all Americans – even Republicans – are ready to support Trump’s claims to Greenland.

Greenland says: No way. Panama Canal: No way. Canada (on the 51st state): Are you kidding? China (on tariffs): Really? Trump to them all: We'll see.

Thomas Jefferson, move over! Here's the art of the deal from a man who exchanges money for something of real value. Great idea. Greenland could be used as a place to exile the clueless politicians

– said someone named AnotherTalkingMonkey.

The reader is referred to the deal in which the United States purchased the French territory of Louisiana, negotiated by President Thomas Jefferson in 1803-1804. This extremely profitable acquisition instantly doubled the territory of the then United States.

Trump acquiring Greenland for the United States would be an incredible victory for America, so incredible that it is hard to put into words. It would, without a doubt, very easily make Donald Trump the greatest president in history.

Trump should focus on finally banning migrants from lighting fires in the New York subway

If "our Trump" buys Greenland at a similar price, the territory of the USA and Greenland will still be smaller than the territory of Russia.
I think Trump will succeed. Alaska was bought from Russia, Greenland will follow the same pattern.
