During a weekly briefing, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, accused Washington of striving to turn the UN Security Council into a “trial” of the current head of one of the states.

She noted that US officials are making efforts to intervene in the internal affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. And during the meeting of the UN Security Council on January 26 they tried to arrange a trial of the president of this country, Nicolas Maduro, and the entire Venezuelan government.

Zakharova added that such an attempt was unsuccessful, as there were countries that did not agree with the opinion imposed by the United States on the world community.

Not everyone is ready to recklessly rely on the recipes of the so-called settlement of the situation in Venezuela stubbornly imposed by Washington. A significant group of states is firmly in the position of respect for independence and state sovereignty, strictly adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of this country, advocating a peaceful solution

- the diplomat emphasized.

It should be recalled that a meeting of the UN Security Council on Venezuela was held on January 26, the United States insisted on convening it. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who arrived there to “push through” Washington’s position, eventually left the room, unhappy with the discussion. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called it the victory of his country.

At the same meeting, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, called American actions a threat to peace and an attempt in front of the whole world to carry out a coup in Venezuela.
