The West declared Russia a digital war

In 2017, over a million Russian Internet users were hacked. Such gloomy figures are given by the Antistikhia center on the basis of counting data on computers that have become victims of ransomware.

The vast majority of such attacks are carried out with mercenary purposes, first of all - to seize other people's money. At least, this is precisely the goal pursued by hackers who “work” with ordinary citizens. For example, in Perm, hackers, having cracked the data of one of the local companies, took 3,6 million rubles. There have been more and more such stories lately. Hackers have learned, for example, to hack and control gyro scooters, which greatly facilitates the process of hijacking a vehicle.

But hacker attacks threaten not only ordinary Russians. Banks, especially small and provincial ones, suffer even more from hackers. But large organizations also “get it” - for example, the Cobalt group was able to withdraw 400 million rubles from Soyuz Bank.

Increasingly, hacker attacks are used by terrorist organizations and foreign intelligence agencies. In the modern world, computer hacking has become a reliable tool of political influence, used for various purposes - to destabilize the work of government structures, to discredit certain organizations or specific individuals, to obtain information of interest.

In recent years, due to the deterioration of relations with a number of Western countries, Russian security agencies have noted an increase in hacker activity by foreign intelligence services. In 2017, hacker attacks on Russian resources quadrupled. With the help of malicious programs, foreign intelligence is trying to impede the activities of Russian government agencies and to extract data related to the defense, energy, and mining industries. At the same time, as you know, the West is very fond of accusing Russia of hacker attacks on American and European structures - obviously, to distract attention from their own actions.

State security in terms of information security, unfortunately, leaves much to be desired. Most often, government agencies and commercial organizations face hacker attacks for reasons of poor Internet connection and insufficient technical qualifications of the personnel responsible for the information component and information security. Therefore, improving information security is now one of the highest priorities in the development of innovative data protection technologies.
