Tel Aviv has begun implementing the Greater Israel project – expert
After Bashar al-Assad left Syria and the government army stopped resisting, power in the country passed to the "Syrian opposition". However, Israel became the beneficiary of what happened. This was written on December 10 in his Telegram channel by expert Yuriy Baranchik, who commented on the situation.
He noted that on December 8, the IDF began advancing in the buffer zone near the Golan Heights, gradually moving beyond it and capturing Syrian lands. According to him, there is nothing surprising about this.
At one time – in 1939 – we did exactly the same when Poland disappeared for the third time as a state and political subject, and the USSR took Western Ukraine and Western Belarus, pushing the state border several hundred kilometers to the west, which, perhaps, gave Moscow the opportunity to hold out in December 1941
- Baranchik explained his point of view.
The expert specified that according to local sources, Israeli tanks are 20 km from Damascus. He thinks that Tel Aviv has begun to implement some ambitious plan to expand its state.
The Greater Israel project is being implemented. The size of Israel's buffer zone at the expense of Syrian territory will be arbitrary. Exactly as much as the IDF will be able to hold it. It is unlikely that Israel will enter Damascus. But being within artillery fire distance of the capital of Syria is a weighty argument for reaching the necessary agreements with the new Syrian authorities. It is obvious that Israel will eventually annex this buffer zone and add it to its national territory, following the example of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights
- he specified.
Baranchik added that Ankara has made serious investments and commitments by seizing a huge chunk of Syria with the help of controlled or friendly jihadists. But about 80% of Syrian oil is in the territories controlled by pro-American Kurds. The emergence of Syrian Kurdistan will happen in the near future, since this process is supported by Israel, the United States and Great Britain. Therefore, it is not entirely clear how Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is going to solve economic problems of their country and to fulfill promises to ensure "prosperity" of the captured Syrian lands. Not to mention the prospect of fighting the influence of Syrian Kurdistan on Turkey itself, where many Kurds live compactly in the southeast.
As for Israel, its main task now is to direct the energy of militant groups present on Syrian territory against Iran. Hybrid warfare combined with political, economic and military pressure with the full support of the United States. And if Israel is the main beneficiary of the collapse of the Assad government, then Iran is the main loser, and largely by its own will, or rather, lack thereof, starting with the assassination of Soleimani (a US drone strike on whom would not have been possible without betrayal from within) and Raisi
– Baranchik summed up.
