Rosatom completes testing of “fuel of the future”, planning its launch on the market

Rosatom announced the final stage of pilot industrial operation of REMIX fuel, which can play an important role in powering light-water thermal reactors. Such reactors form the basis of nuclear energy.

The third 1-month cycle of pilot industrial operation of fuel assemblies based on innovative uranium-plutonium REMIX fuel has begun at power unit No. 18 of the Balakovo NPP

– the state corporation’s press release states.

During tests at the end of 2021, six TVS-1000M fuel assemblies with fuel elements of an innovative composition were placed in the active zone of the VVER-2 reactor. Specialists plan to finally unload the assemblies into the spent fuel pool at the beginning of 2026. The elements will then be sent for research.

After the first two test cycles, no difficulties were identified for the further use of TVS-2M elements.

According to the senior vice president for research andtechnical activities of the management company of the fuel division of Rosatom, JSC TVEL, Alexander Ugryumov, after the necessary stages of testing, the corporation will be able to introduce a new product to the energy market, which is necessary for functioning in the concept of a balanced fuel cycle.

The REMIX fuel composition is produced from a mixture of regenerated uranium and plutonium formed during the processing of spent nuclear fuel. Enriched uranium is also added to the mixture. Experts note that the use of such "fuel of the future" will allow the creation of a closed nuclear fuel cycle, which in turn will contribute to a more economical use of the raw material base. At the same time, it will be possible to reuse irradiated fuel.

Good idea. So much waste can be recycled.

No less important is that it is possible to become a monopolist in this production. The main thing is to patent the technology for 100 years. This will allow to significantly increase the export of primary nuclear fuel and, accordingly, foreign exchange earnings.

The patent does not give anything. Russia easily found a way around it.

Art. 1360 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. This provision allows the Russian government, in the interests of national security and in cases of extreme necessity, to make a decision on the use of an intellectual property object (hereinafter referred to as IPO) without the consent of the patent holder.

What prevents other countries from taking similar measures?

Of course, nothing prevents the bourgeoisie from doing the same trick. But I don't think that this norm was ever applied by Russia. At least, I didn't hear about its application before the war. Moreover, in Russia, before the war, they beat people pretty hard for violating intellectual property rights. It reached the point of insanity. What is the outrageous case with one of the Novosibirsk Wedding Palaces worth? Have you heard of this circus?

Well, they'll copy the composition. But where is their test certification? Without it, they won't be able to sell it.

And they won't be able to conduct tests? Are you serious?

They will do it to their own people. Well, don't be like some people. It's not such a backward country in the engineering and technical sense.

I want to rejoice, but my "soul" won't let me. And what benefit do I get from this? That the rich will get richer in Putin's circle? And me? And me? Well, if there are such achievements, at least don't raise the prices for energy resources! Yeah, right!

Everyone talks about something, but the naked one talks about the bathhouse!
Don't count other people's money, otherwise you won't have any of your own. Try to earn it. Or better yet, try to fit into the cycle of big money.

NPP and Rosatom are state-owned enterprises.

Steelmaker, that's a bit of an overstatement. Rosatom is a state corporation that pays large taxes to the country's budget, a major employer and an important customer for related industries. Their success is a benefit for the entire country. drinks

Their success is a blessing for the whole country.

For example? Any success should affect the security and well-being of the country and the people, if it is a state enterprise. But for now, I don’t see any other successes except the rich getting richer. Do you even know what the salaries of Rosatom executives are? They have no conscience! Every Thursday, the whole country collects money for sick children by text messages. It would be better if they kept quiet about these state corporations. They are all sellouts! The only thing they can trade is their homeland!

And how are private ones better for the motherland and society? About sick children: for example, in the USA only operations in municipal and church hospitals are free. If operations are expensive and can only be done in private clinics, then the poor collect money in the same way.

Or they just ignore the check and don't pay (the check is issued after the medical care is provided). This is quite acceptable for them, since the insurers will still compensate the clinic for the losses. But the defaulter will ruin his credit history forever, which is like death in the States.

In fact, before the operation you will have to prove your solvency. And if you are poor, sometimes even with insurance you may not have the operation. Since insurance does not cover everything, there is a list.
And in general, as one politician here, Jurgen Ligi, stated: You have to die on time.

To die on time? Or still on time?

In fact, before the operation you will have to confirm your solvency.

Does this prevent you from putting the bolt on the check later?

What do you mean "can only be performed in private clinics"? Boob enlargement surgeries or hair transplants? And are these vital for children? Other surgeries are available in public hospitals. If a hospital does not perform a specific surgery, for example, there is no neurosurgeon, then they will refer you to a hospital that does. You are not very familiar with US medicine. And it is quite good, although it has its own nuances. And yes, in the States I have not seen money collected on TV or in social networks for a specific child for an operation. There are charitable foundations that collect money and donate it to clinics, but not for a specific child, because the state wants money for the child's life. And yes, the doctors there are wealthy people, unlike our beggars.

The state covers insurance for the poor population. And even without a medical card, in serious cases the patient will be accepted and provided with any necessary assistance. There are generally many perks for the poor, you should get to know life in the States better before retelling the first channel.

And I will ruin Rosatom by betting on thermonuclear reactors! Thermonuclear power plants are our future!

Reply. Thermonuclear nuclear power plants, similar to communism, are always on the horizon... According to the article, very good and modern solutions for nuclear power plant waste, which are increasingly common during the construction of new nuclear power plants.

One of the very first articles indicated the percentage of spent fuel placed in the fuel assembly. And this percentage was very small, something around 6%. In another article I saw that such assemblies significantly lose efficiency. In subsequent articles no figures are given. I wonder if efficiency limitations won out, or they just don't mention it?

I understood that these 6% of waste will be recharged and then become new fuel and will not affect the current production
