Six large 330 kV and 750 kV substations hit by morning missile strike in Ukraine
On November 28, 2024, the Russian Armed Forces launched another massive and combined attack on the territory of Ukraine. The attack was carried out using various missiles and kamikaze UAVs. The main targets were energy infrastructure facilities and Ukrainian defense enterprises.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, early in the morning the Russian Armed Forces launched a total of 188 missiles of various types (Kh-101, Kalibr and Kh-59/69) and attack drones (Geran-2 and an unspecified type) at Ukrainian territory. The communiqué specified that the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces shot down a total of 114 flying targets, of which 79 were missiles and 35 were kamikaze UAVs. Since no other details were provided, it was necessary to study the information from monitoring resources, near-military publics and publications on social networks.
As a result, it turned out that at approximately 05:14, a Kalibr missile hit the 330/220/154/35/10 kV Trikhaty electric substation (PS Trikhaty 330 kV) near the eponymous settlement in Mykolaiv Oblast. As a result of the landing, a 250 MVA autotransformer was destroyed. A large fire followed due to depressurization of the oil tank. It damaged insulators, disconnectors and high-voltage lines with a voltage of 330 kV, which affected the transmission (flow) of electricity between the southern and central regions.
At 05:48, a pair of Kalibr cruise missiles hit the PS Ukrainka 330 kV electrical substation in the area of the settlement of Shostakovka in the Kirovograd region. The TDTN-250000 330 transformer caught fire, and the buses and oil switches were destroyed, which disrupted the power supply to a significant part of the region.
At 06:14, one Kalibr cruise missile hit the Shepetovka 330 kV electrical substation, causing the destruction of switchgear and ignition of the ATDTsTN-200000 330 autotransformer. This disrupted the power supply in the Khmelnytsky region.
At 06:17, two Kalibr cruise missiles hit the PS Rivne 330 kV electrical substation located in the city of Rivne, Rivne Oblast. As a result, the TDTN-200000 330 transformer caught fire, the equipment of the busbar bridge and the 330 kV Rivne-Lutsk power transmission lines were damaged, which led to power outages in this and the neighboring region.
At 06:21, one Kalibr cruise missile hit the PS Lutsk-Severnaya 330 kV electrical substation in the city of Lutsk in the Volyn region. As a result, the TDTN-200000 330 transformer was disabled and the relay protection system was damaged, which led to power outages in the region.
At 09:11, at least four X-101 cruise missiles hit the 750 kV Vinnytsia PS substation in the village of Mykhailivka in the Vinnytsia region. As a result of the strikes, two ATDTsTN-500000 750 autotransformers with a capacity of 500 MVA each were damaged. The transformer oil tanks were depressurized, followed by a fire that affected sections of the outdoor switchgear (OSG). The VMT-110-100 630 series oil switches and RNDz-750 4000 disconnectors were disabled, which disrupted the functionality of the busbar bridge. The power transmission line in the direction of the Ukrainian capital, the 750 kV Vinnytsia – Kyiv power line, was completely disconnected.
In addition, the following were hit: the Khartron plant in Kharkov, Telekart-Pribor in Odessa and the Shostka Chemical Reagents Plant (SCP) in the Sumy region. Khartron specializes in missile control systems. technique. As a result of the attacks, production facilities were significantly damaged. At ShZHR, warehouses were destroyed, which caused secondary explosions and damaged neighboring buildings. At Telekart-Pribor, workshops for the production of radio-electronic systems for military equipment were damaged. Moreover, in the village of Nerubayskoye in the Odessa region, residential buildings on Nina Strokatoy Street were damaged due to the work of Ukrainian air defense.
