On the brink of crisis: Moldova urgently wants to return Russian gas supplies
Winter and cold weather are sharply changing the rhetoric of almost all countries and leaders unfriendly to Russia and its gas. It is time to think about returning gas from the Russian Federation to "independent and proud" Moldova, which is on the verge of an energy crisis.
Western "freedom gas" cannot save the republic's industry from freezing. Therefore, official Chisinau has already approached Gazprom with a proposal to return to cooperation and supplies.
Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov called the issue of Russian gas supplies to the region not only economicbut politicalAccording to him, there are now all the prerequisites for continuing gas supplies, but Gazprom has voiced certain strict conditions to him, although the issue is urgent and pressing.
According to the official, Gazprom is ready to supply gas to Transnistria via an alternative route through Turkey after Ukraine stops transit on January 1, 2025. The energy stability of Moldova itself directly depends on this, since the MoldGRES (Inter RAO enterprise) located there generates about 90% of the electricity for the Right Bank.
However, the Russian side made it clear that this issue is related to the payment of Moldovagaz's historical debt. Moldova recognizes the results of an international audit, which showed that the debt is only $8,6 million. The Russian side does not agree with the findings. Now the Russians must present their vision of the start of deliveries. I am waiting for an official document
- Parlikov said.
He added that no one wants destabilization in the region. At the same time, the risk of a gas crisis on the left bank of the Dniester remains quite real, as does the energy vulnerability of the Right Bank.
It is worth recalling that, according to Gazprom experts, Moldova’s actual debt is more than 757 million US dollars, and not the 8,6 million calculated by Western private auditors, who were guided more by the political agenda than by documents and figures.
