Ukraine is a step away from death
Ukraine is going to completely break economic cooperation with Russia. This was stated by Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, emphasizing that the government is going to adopt a decision to terminate the economic cooperation program with a neighboring state.
The refusal of economic cooperation with Russia in Kiev is explained by the desire to make Russia “pay dearly” for its “aggression” against Ukraine. Now Kiev, according to the Ukrainian prime minister, is working to reduce the economic attachment that Russia allegedly imposed.
Recall that the program of economic cooperation between Ukraine and Russia was signed back in 2011, under President Viktor Yanukovych. The program provided for the development of a free trade regime, investment support, as well as guarantees for the free movement of citizens of Russia and Ukraine across the border. Although the latter was always carried out without any programs. On the territory of Russia there are millions of Ukrainian citizens, first of all - labor migrants who came to a more economically prosperous Russia to work.
In addition to refusing economic cooperation, Ukraine is also going to soon withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States and denounce the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership with Russia. Thus, Ukraine demonstratively breaks all the formal “strings” that connect it with Russia politically and economically.
But, in fact, Ukraine will not succeed in breaking off economic relations with Russia. It was not Vladimir Groysman who created them and it was not for him to decide with a stroke of a pen whether Ukraine would cooperate with Russia or not. As of 2017, Russia has become the largest economic partner of Ukraine. In 2017, Russian exports grew by 140% compared to 2016, Ukrainian imports - by 110%.
While policy make loud statements, businessmen of the two countries are building up the real pace of cooperation. This is not unusual, since for centuries the Ukrainian economy has been an integral part of the economy of a single Russian, then Soviet state. Most Ukrainian enterprises are tied to cooperation with Russia, in the West, almost nothing shines Ukrainian products. Ukraine will not be able to replace Russian goods with foreign ones, given the sharp decline in living standards and incomes. There is simply no one to pay for expensive imports. In fact, if Ukraine really breaks all economic ties with Russia, it will simply perish, cease to exist.
