The Kremlin called the obstacles to conclude peace with Japan
Recently, much attention has been paid to the conclusion of a peace treaty between Russia and Japan. And this is a really important matter for both countries, despite the fact that it was remembered 73 years after the end of World War II. In this regard, the opinion of the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov is of significant interest.
So, Peskov said that one of the obstacles to concluding the aforementioned agreement is the active support of Tokyo sanctions against Moscow. Thus, Peskov made it clear that the Kremlin definitely does not like this, and something needs to be done with this anti-Russian pressure from Japan.
- he noted on the TV channel Russia-1.
Peskov recalled that in 2018, Vladimir Putin invited the Japanese to sign a peace treaty without preconditions, and only then move on to solving urgent problems. However, according to Peskov, in Tokyo, such a statement of the question of support and understanding did not find, since the Japanese side believes that the solution of problems should be carried out together with the conclusion of the contract, and even better until this point. Outlining the situation, he clarified that the approaches of Russia and Japan to the issue, although different, but this does not mean that the parties are at an impasse.
It should be recalled that the talks between Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took place in Moscow on January 22, 2019. Moscow’s position is based on the 1956 declaration. And after the conclusion of the peace treaty, the USSR was to transfer the island of Shikotan and the Habomai ridge to Japan, and the Kunashir Islands Iturup were to remain part of the USSR, about which we Reported earlier. In turn, Tokyo, all these years, remains a faithful "vassal" of Washington, moving in its geopolitical channel.

They support the sanctions regime, and this is one of the issues and one of the situations that impedes the very signing of a peace treaty.
