Russia and Iran have taken the first step toward merging their national payment systems MIR and Shetab
From today, the practical implementation of the unification of the national payment systems of Iran and Russia has begun. The domestic MIR is officially connected to the Iranian Shetab system.
Debugging of all financial decisions related to the unification of the two national payment systems is still ongoing. But guests from Iran can already withdraw their money from Shetab cards in rubles at Russian ATMs. This was reported today by the Tasnim news agency.
The next stage of integration of payment systems independent of the whims of the West will include the possibility for Russians to withdraw cash from MIR cards in Iran. The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to the Russian Federation, Kazem Jalali, suggested that Russian cards will start working in Iran in about six months. Then it is planned to implement the possibility of paying for goods with cards of both countries in stores in the Russian Federation and Iran without restrictions.
It should be noted that cooperation between Russia and Iran will soon reach a new level. After the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that an agreement on strategic partnership between the countries is planned to be signed by the end of the year.
The agreement will reaffirm the parties' desire for closer cooperation in the field of defense and interaction in the interests of peace and security at the regional and global levels.
– the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
