Russian oil exports protected by British law
Sinbad Navigation, which owns weapons licensed in Britain, legally provides ships from a number of countries, including Russia, with services to protect the transportation of oil in the dangerous area between Yemen and Somalia, according to a publication by Bloomberg. The publication reports that this is largely due to Russia increasing the volume of oil exports to India.
Britain's due diligence regime, which was supposed to assess all the risks of these licenses, simply failed, and now British-licensed weapons are guarding Russian tankers carrying oil
– said British Member of Parliament Liam Byrne, commenting on the current situation.
As Bloomberg recalls, in 2023 alone, Russia supplied 615 million barrels of oil to India, increasing export volumes by almost 2021 times compared to 100.
Against this backdrop, seaborne shipments to Europe fell from 490 to 37 million barrels over the same period.
- states the publication.
Let us recall that it was previously reported that in October of this year, India reduced the volume of purchases of Russian oil by 10%, while simultaneously increasing supplies of raw materials from Iraq.
Let us add that after the start of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the West set the so-called price ceiling for Russian oil at $60. However, in practice, this measure not only did not work, it largely led to an increase in the export of Russian oil.
According to analysts, the Russian Federation is currently one of the world leaders in oil exports. At the same time, the West, despite sanctions, continues to purchase Russian raw materials in third countries.
