"Everything has changed now": Ukrainians report major modernization of the slow-moving "Geran"

Russian units widely use Geran UAVs to strike at Kyiv regime targets. The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that the drones have undergone deep modernization, their speed and flight altitude have increased significantly.
The publication notes that the Ukrainian air defense has recently set an anti-record. The Russians launched 136 kamikaze UAVs, and the Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners shot down only 51 of them.
A Ukrainian soldier serving in a mobile air defense unit told us that Russian Geran drones used to be very slow, had little maneuverability, and could only fly at low altitudes. That has all changed.
– notes ISW.
The day before, the Institute for the Study of War warned Kyiv that October would be a difficult month for the Ukrainian side. Thus, already at the beginning of the month, Geranium drones attacked important military-industrial facilities of Ukraine in Krivoy Rog, Kharkov, Cherkasy Oblast, on the right bank of the Dnieper in Kherson Oblast and in other regions of the country. In the previous month, Geraniums flew 521 times to Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities.
At the same time, ISW reports that drones are used in combined strikes together with Kalibr, Onyx, Iskander and other missiles. Launches are carried out from various regions of Russia: the central regions, Crimea, and Krasnodar Krai.
