US notified Russia of withdrawal from INF Treaty

1
Recently we Reported about the confidence of the Russian Foreign Ministry that the Americans have already decided to withdraw from the INF Treaty. Now it became known that Washington did notify Moscow of the decision to withdraw from the INF Treaty. This was announced by deputy head of the department Sergey Ryabkov at a press conference on the 9M729 rocket for specialists and journalists.

Commenting on the Americans’s undermining international security move, Ryabkov said that the United States had indeed confirmed its decision and provided a clear explanation on this matter. So the step they took is not an invitation to dialogue, but a decision made on the basis of circumstances and it is final.

According to Ryabkov, Washington fabricated or simply invented the “violations” that Moscow allegedly committed, thereby trying to shift the responsibility to it. However, Russia believes that it has not violated the aforementioned agreement; therefore, the US’s arguments about withdrawing from the DRM are untenable. He stressed that the Americans ’demand to destroy all 9M729 missiles is absolutely unacceptable to the Russian side.

He noted that Russia was ready to go on unprecedented transparency on the INF Treaty and suggested that the United States act in the same transparent way. In particular, the Russian side previously proposed to organize a demonstration and briefing on the 9M729 missile and its launcher. Moscow thinks that such constructive actions will help preserve the INF Treaty, which, without exaggeration, awaits the entire world community.

Ryabkov recalled that 15 years ago Washington unilaterally curtailed the work of the special control commission on the INF Treaty. Then the Americans said they did not want to continue discussing Russia's concerns at that time regarding compliance by the American side with the INF Treaty. It was about the production and testing by the Americans of the first models of shock drones, which completely fall within the definition of a medium-range ground-based cruise missile contained in the INF Treaty.

However, it must be added that the Russian 9M729 cruise missile, which, according to the United States, violates the agreement, is a modernized version of the 9M728 missile, which is part of the Iskander-M complex. It must be emphasized that these missiles are equipped with a warhead and are fueled exclusively in the factory and delivered to the troops in special containers. This was announced by the head of the Missile Forces and Artillery Mikhail Matveevsky.

Therefore, changing the mass of fuel in them, in the form of refueling, is fundamentally impossible to do on launchers. Moreover, the 9M729 missile was not developed and was not tested at a range exceeding the limit established by the INF Treaty.
