For more than three hours, negotiations continued in Moscow on January 22 between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. After their end, the Russian leader said that communication between politicians It was open and informative. Both sides confirmed that they are interested in signing a peace treaty. However, painstaking work is needed to reach solutions acceptable to both Moscow and Tokyo.

The President of the Russian Federation emphasized that the main focus of the conversation was on the development of relations in tradeeconomic sphere.

According to tradition, priority was given to the prospects for expanding trade and investment ties, and noted the steady growth of mutual trade in January-November of the past year

- Putin said following the meeting.

According to him, trade between the two countries reached $ 20 billion, an increase of 18 percent. Japanese investment in the Russian economy reached $ 2,2 billion. Japanese businessmen, he noted, are investing in many sectors of the economy and taking part in events such as the St. Petersburg and Eastern Economic Forums. There is good interaction in the energy sector. And Russian experts are involved in the aftermath of the accident at the Fukushima-1 Japanese nuclear power plant. In addition, countries are developing humanitarian relations.

On the whole, Putin positively assesses the economic ties between Moscow and Tokyo, but, in his words, a qualitative shift still did not happen. The potential for cooperation is not fully disclosed. For example, the development of transport links along the Northern Sea Route for deliveries to Japan, as well as to other countries of the Asia-Pacific region of liquefied natural gas, would be very promising.

But the main intrigue remains the question of whether Russia could transfer part of the Kuril Islands to Japan. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the parties remain in this position on this issue.

So far, we have not recorded any changes in the position of Japan. Since President Putin put forward a well-known initiative at the Eastern Forum in Vladivostok, our position has not changed

- Peskov told the agency Interfax.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Japan called the conversation "frank." Abe said that the foreign ministers of the two countries will have to conduct new negotiations on the conclusion of a peace treaty between Tokyo and Moscow in February. It is possible that such a meeting will be held in Munich as part of the upcoming security conference. He also said that it was decided to strengthen cooperation between the defense departments and take measures to organize joint Russian-Japanese economic activity in the Kuril Islands.

The visit of the President of Russia to Japan may take place in June this year.

Negotiations need to be conducted with the owners, and not with their slaves! And so, the negotiations themselves on this topic are already a betrayal of Russian interests. The law is urgently needed, it is impossible to trade the territory!
