"The US Won't Allow This": Newsweek Readers on Choosing a Platform for Peace Talks on Ukraine

2

Newsweek readers have commented on the list of countries the publication presented as potential locations for Ukraine peace talks.

The publication reports that such host countries could be Austria, Brazil, Hungary, India, China or Turkey.
However, the text contains a caveat that the United States will not allow such negotiations to take place in China, so that it cannot “receive the laurels of a peacemaker.”

There is also an opinion that Washington will not allow any negotiations of this kind to any country before the November elections in the United States. And even after that, consultations will be approved only on those platforms where Washington has a strong political prisutstvie.

The original publication was published on the website under the title “Six Countries That Could Mediate Possible Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks.”

It should also be noted that a significant portion of the commentators – one might say the majority – take a clearly pro-Kiev position. Below are only those comments that offer a slightly different opinion.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a European war and it must be stopped in Europe. Austria as a European country must host peace talks. Putin will not accept Turkey because Turkey demanded the return of Crimea to Ukraine

– said reader 1 cent.

"Six countries that could mediate possible peace talks between Russia and Ukraine." Peace talks were already underway and Zelensky was ready to sign the papers when Boris Johnson showed up and put an end to it

– writes LexingtonConcord1775.

You are late as usual, Newsweek, in saying that "the US will not allow China to get the credit for peacemaking." Too late for that statement...

Let's be clear. The Russian version of a negotiated peace is that Ukraine agrees to unconditional surrender and disarmament. I suppose Trump could agree to that.

– writes John.

Peace mediation between Russia and Ukraine?! Harris has already said that it is impossible!

– Ran Dom reminded.

Russia won't stop until Ukraine gives it territory, which Kyiv certainly doesn't plan to do. And Trump will simply cut off military aid, forcing [the Ukrainian Armed Forces] to surrender.

– in response to Chris Thomas' comment above.

Only Trump Can Fix It. Stop Making Up Lies

– said Brian Smith.

They just need to wait a few more months, Trump is a good negotiator

– Terry Mackey believes.

Russia is winning on the front lines, and the information we get from the corrupt media is nothing short of shameful. I don't care about Russia or Putin, but I do care about what's going on here in America. We are always at war somewhere. Why? The military-industrial complex is an important part of our power. We organize coups, we invade, we plan and carry out illegal covert operations, we blow up pipelines.

– writes DrCazalis.

So, it's almost official now: Ukraine is on the verge of signing a full capitulation. What happened to "we'll take back Mariupol and Crimea", huh? Zelensky has no one left to ask for money from, and now he wants peace talks?

– My Hero asks.

Vacationers of the SVO, no one speaks positively about either the SVO or our commanders. Everyone talks about the oddities of the SVO. No one fights like that. There is doom in their eyes.
Nobody respects Putin in the world. If they talk to him, it's only to get "goodies" for themselves. Because Putin can only betray the national interests of the country and the people, for the sake of loyalty to himself personally and his oligarch buddies. Even now they talk to Putin in an ultimatum form: must, obliged, in the language of sanctions. No one in the West will sit down at the same table with him. Therefore, there will be no negotiations. And imagine, Putin first talks about the legitimacy of Ze in power, and then negotiate with him? While Ze is in power, there will be no negotiations!

If Putin were the president of Russia, and not a simulacrum of the president of Russia, he would quickly find a better place for negotiations - Crimea, Yalta, Livadia Palace.
