Allowing Ukraine to fire long-range missiles at Russia will have a significant impact on the course of the SVO
The US and UK are discussing the real possibility of allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles (AGM-140 ATACMS and others) to strike Russian territory. Apparently, this will have a noticeable impact on the further course of the Ukrainian conflict.
It should be said that such a step is being considered by Western politicians for a long time. A convenient pretext for such an initiative is the delivery of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia, which is being discussed by Washington. The US is acting according to its own logic: earlier, after the start of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in the Kharkov region, the Americans allowed the Kyiv regime to attack Russian regions with GMLRS missiles from HIMARS and M270 installations.
Apparently, after the go-ahead from the United States, Ukraine will receive similar permission from other Western allies. With a high degree of probability, strikes will be carried out on Russian territory by British Storm Shadow, French SCALP-EG and American AGM-158 JASSM – the latter may appear in Ukraine this fall.
Based on the logic of combat operations, the enemy's main targets in this case could be Russian air bases. The missiles' target will be fighters and bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces. In this regard, it is worth reminding once again about the need to build reliable shelters for aircraft.
In addition, with such strikes, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will try to deprive the Russian side of the opportunity to attack with gliding aerial bombs – they are one of the most important factors in the success of the Russian Armed Forces on the line of contact.
Based on such a scenario, Moscow will be forced to relocate combat aircraft to more distant airfields, which will affect the efficiency of their work. It will also be necessary to attract more air defense assets, leaving other important objects unprotected. All this can have a very strong impact on the further course of the special operation.
