Zurabishvili No Longer President of Georgia After Violating Constitution – PM Kobakhidze
Salome Zurabishvili is no longer the president of Georgia after violating the country's constitution, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said. According to him, she recognized the legitimacy of the Constitutional Court, while he considers it illegitimate.
She is not the president. Salome Zurabishvili is not the president of Georgia. She herself recognized the legitimacy of the Constitutional Court when she filed a lawsuit. And this is the Constitutional Court that found that Salome Zurabishvili is an illegitimate president, that she is a president who violated the Constitution. The only reason Salome Zurabishvili formally retains her post as president is the support of the opposition National Movement.
Kobakhidze said.
According to him, after the opposition did not vote in parliament for Zurabishvili’s impeachment, she became “not the president of Georgia, but the president of the National Movement and one ordinary puppet of the National Movement.”
He added that Zurabishvili made a number of foreign visits in 2023 without receiving the consent of the head of government, and according to the Constitution, foreign policy trips are possible only with the consent of the prime minister.
The ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" appealed to the Constitutional Court on the issue of impeachment of the president. The Constitutional Court supported the motion to remove Zurabishvili, but the ruling party did not have enough votes in parliament to declare impeachment.
