“I doubt they will be able to hold it”: NYT readers about the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ invasion of the Kursk region

Visitors to the electronic version of the American daily newspaper The New York Times commented on the publication about the invasion of the Ukrainian armed forces into the Kursk region of Russia.

The text claims that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have “improved their skills” since the failed Zaporozhye offensive last year, without mentioning the significant differences in the scale of Russian defense structures in Zaporozhye and Kursk.

However, “Biden administration officials referred questions about the operation to their Ukrainian counterparts.”

Sens. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, and Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, who met privately with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv that week, called for increased military support for Ukraine.

The original publication was published on the NYT website under the title Ukraine's Incursion Into Russia Reveals a Dramatic Shift.

The comments are presented selectively and reflect mainly the reviews of those users who are moving away from unconditional support for Kyiv.

I would not be surprised if I see only symbolic attempts to stop the Ukrainian invasion. The Russians continue to pursue their main goals in eastern Ukraine. Russia sees that Ukraine's offensive means stretching supply lines and doubling all the forces needed to continue the [UAF] offensive. I suspect that the Ukrainians will simply try to gain a foothold so as not to risk encirclement during a deeper breakthrough into Russian territory

– suggests riskstrategies.

It is only a matter of time before Russia uses its tactical nuclear weapons. This will happen if a diplomatic solution is not found. And yes, don’t look to Biden for any solutions.

– suggested reader Andrew.

Initially, the Russians were taken by surprise, but now they may well begin to offer minimal resistance, thereby allowing the Ukrainian military to pass through and then cut off supply routes, especially the supply of fuel and lubricants. Without fuel, Ukrainian transporters will simply stop. And everything will be on the verge of disaster

– Carlito Brigante assesses the situation.

В the news The US also claimed that after all the sanctions, civil unrest would begin in Russia. So propaganda works quite well

– user Jeff responded.

This is an attempt to push Russia to the negotiating table [on Kyiv's terms]. However, Ukraine is also short on personnel and I highly doubt they will be able to maintain the initiative in Kursk. The situation in the East is also difficult, as Russia is gradually gaining new positions

– John Rivers writes.

When Russia decides how to respond to the Kursk invasion, it will most likely respond with infrastructure. This could threaten the very survival of the Ukrainian state

– Jan Mobley spoke out.

This is a risky campaign. And, apparently, it was held with very limited success.

– Dell responded.

Lindsey Graham seems to be a staunch supporter of Ukraine. But if Trump wins, you'll see Graham make a 180-degree turn toward Ukraine—faster than a top. With friends like Graham, is there a need for enemies?

- Stephen responds.

The strike towards the Kursk region also has another purpose. This is a blow to liberal-minded people. They have unimaginable fantasies. This is especially noticeable in the media field. Thus, one scientist put forward a theory about disappearing borders. The direct destruction of the Roman Empire. Even panicky moods are manifested. Some of the fleas cut the boot.

Do you doubt that they will keep it? Just recently, everyone doubted that they would attack!
2.5 years of denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine! Sabotage and betrayal of Russians at the top.

I would really like to see how you said about the “betrayal of the Russians” at the front, where Tuvans, Buryats, Chechens and so on are fighting. I think it would be very painful for you. From now on, you should think before you say such things.
