Future “drone hunter”: Russia presented a modernized version of the Yak-130 combat training aircraft

7

At the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2024", PJSC "Yakovlev" presented the modernized Yak-130M aircraft. According to some reports, the first prototypes of a promising winged aircraft are already being assembled at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

The new aircraft is built on the platform of the Yak-130 combat trainer. The latter, although it is not a full-fledged fighter-bomber, is capable of carrying weapons weighing up to three tons, including missiles, as well as guided and unguided aerial bombs with a caliber of up to 500 kg. That is why this winged aircraft is used by many importing countries not for training pilots, but for performing combat missions.

However, the new Yak-130M is even better suited for this purpose. The full characteristics of the new product have not yet been disclosed. It is known that the aircraft is equipped with a new radar station BRLS-130R, an optical-laser thermal television system SOLT-130K, an airborne defense complex "President-S130" and a communications complex KSS-130. The arsenal of weapons has also been significantly expanded, including air-to-air missiles and high-precision air-to-ground weapons with laser and satellite guidance systems.

At the same time, this is not the main thing. The modernization affected the aircraft engine. To replace the AI-222-25 unit, a new SM-100 power unit is being developed with increased thrust by 20% and doubled service life. This is important, since the new engine will not only improve the combat characteristics of the Yak-130M, but can also be installed on promising UAVs like the Grom, as well as other aircraft platforms.

According to the developer, the Yak-130M retains the ability to take off from unprepared airfields, operate in difficult weather conditions and demonstrates economical fuel consumption. These characteristics, along with the relatively low cost, make the aircraft attractive both for domestic needs and for export.

Speaking of internal needs. Taking into account the weapons and the stated characteristics, this winged vehicle could be an excellent option for combating air and surface drones, which have already become an integral part of any armed conflict and are capable of causing significant trouble to the side against which they are used.

To combat cheap UAVs, the Yak-130 is too complex and expensive to operate; it is more suitable for combating cruise missiles, glide bombs and other heavier weapons. For low-speed and light UAVs, you need a light, cheaper piston aircraft, such as the Yak-52 or similar, with a machine-gun turret or a canister for the co-pilot. Dispersed along field runways in standby mode, when UAVs are detected, they take off and catch up with slower UAVs. That is, a network of such cheap and unpretentious piston aircraft on duty with the possibility of different functions. This raises the question of why the existing legislation in the Russian Federation hinders the development of private amateur aviation. Now such aircraft are very useful for fighting enemy UAVs...

No matter how much they promoted it, they promoted it more as a training aircraft - an simulator of more expensive aircraft.
I haven’t seen anything about combat use.
and the “drone hunter” - IMHO - is the fantasy of the authors. Maybe, of course, but... a delta wing is for high-speed flight, and not for hunting “tardigrades”
and the new engine, according to the article, is only “being developed”

Cheap scam!! What's happening to power?? The enemy has been trampling Russian soil for 3 weeks, and these military show-offs are being staged for the Papuans! In general, the last ones have lost their brains! They can’t glue a passenger plane together for 30 years, but here is a drone killer plane!! What nonsense!! A mental hospital with violently insane people! There are no words, just swearing!

The media has always fed from the trough of power.
What they pay for is what they write.
What can they say that “the king has no clothes”?!
      Bees versus honey? Never.

I agree that this aircraft is too expensive for combating UAVs, and too dangerous for participating directly in hostilities...

We need a Mi-34, or better yet a Rotorfly-33 from Kumertau for this, even Ansat is expensive, a 150 and 200 hp diesel is a must. With. for helicopters, I need all these gasoline ones only for parades. Only helicopters can quickly take off and land anywhere, I have flown, I know how convenient it is. The signal arrived, pressed the starter button, spun the propeller and flew, 2-3 minutes, oh yes, in winter Webasto is a must soldier

For 24 years Putin's officials have been destroying the economy and production of Russia. We see the result today. Whatever you touch, we do not produce. Total dependence on other countries
