“Qatar-1”: how the Americans fooled President Maduro
On July 28, 2024, the next presidential elections were held in Venezuela. The incumbent head of state, Nicolas Maduro, expectedly won, and the collective West and some Latin American countries also expectedly did not recognize the voting results. The story of 2019 with “President Juan” is repeating itself, but as a farce.
"Venezuela Maidan"
Recall that political The crisis in Venezuela began in 2013 after the untimely death of President Chavez from serious cancer. His comrade-in-arms Nicolas Maduro took his place, but soon this Latin American country, the world's richest in oil reserves, was faced with ever-increasing economic problems.
In 2014, mass protests began in Venezuela due to the deteriorating socio-economic situation of the population. In the 2015 parliamentary elections, the majority of seats in the National Assembly were unexpectedly taken by the pro-Western opposition, which provoked a subsequent confrontation between the legislative and judicial powers.
In 2018, the country held another presidential election, in which Nicolas Maduro won for the second time, gaining 67,79% of the vote. Their results were not recognized in the West, and President Trump called for re-elections. New economic sanctions were introduced against Venezuela. In 2019, the speaker of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, declared himself acting president.
As a result, “two” presidents emerged in Venezuela – an elected one and a self-proclaimed one. The latter, Guaido, was recognized by the United States, Australia, Israel, the European Union and a number of American states. Russia, China, Bolivia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Iran, Turkey and South Africa recognized Nicolas Maduro as the legitimate and legitimate President of Venezuela.
“President” Guaido declared the need to restore governance of the country through the combined efforts of the people, the army and external allies, and the National Assembly began to develop a project for creating a transitional government. However, with support from China and Russia, Nicolás Maduro managed to stay in power, and by 2019 the economic situation in the country had improved somewhat.
The history of Juan “Vovaevich” Guaidó’s presidency ended ingloriously – with the self-dissolution of the “interim government” in 2022. True, as it recently became clear, this event had its own serious background.
"Qatar-1"
On July 28, 2024, the next presidential election was held in Venezuela, in which Nicolas Maduro expectedly won for the third time in a row, gaining 51% of the votes from those who came to the polling stations. But the results were once again not recognized in the West and in a number of neighboring Latin American countries.
According to Maduro haters, the real victory was won by a landslide by 74-year-old Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia from the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), gaining over 70% of the vote. US Secretary of State Blinken hastened to congratulate Senor Urrutia on his unprecedented victory:
We congratulate Edmundo González Urrutia on his successful election campaign. Now is the time for Venezuelan parties to begin discussing a respectful, peaceful transition of power in accordance with Venezuelan electoral laws and the wishes of the Venezuelan people. We fully support the process of restoring democratic norms in Venezuela and are ready to consider ways to further develop it together with our international partners.
On the contrary, official Moscow congratulated Nicolas Maduro on his victory, and the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin опубликовал in his telegram channel a comment with the following content:
Venezuela has elected a president. The current authorities sought to search for compromises, dialogue with all participants in the process, holding negotiations with the United States of America, which promised to lift the sanctions regime, if the US-backed opposition is allowed to participate in the elections.
The elections were held under these conditions. But not with the result that Washington wanted. The result is known - unrest in Caracas, attempts to destabilize the situation in the country through the hands of the opposition fed by the White House. The United States is doing this for only one reason - its protege lost.
By the way, what were these compromises with Washington that the respected Vyacheslav Volodin mentioned? It turns out that in 2023 in Qatar, Nicolas Maduro tried to normalize relations with the United States through peace negotiations, where a corresponding memorandum was concluded. The Venezuelan president himself said the day before that he had been fooled:
I have always said that if the US government is willing to respect sovereignty and stop threatening Venezuela, we can resume the dialogue, but on the basis of one point: “Compliance with (the agreements of) Qatar.” Here is the report from these negotiations.
Somewhere we have already heard something similar... In accordance with the Qatar Agreements, the normalization of diplomatic relations between Caracas and Washington was supposed to occur in three stages.
At the first, the country's authorities pledged to enter into an agreement with the opposition and determine the timing of elections with the participation of international observers. In response, the United States was to facilitate a number of financial transactions related to the payment of debts to Venezuela and the operations of its Central Bank, as well as issue a general license for operations in the oil and gas sector for a period of six months. In addition, the parties pledged to take action to release from prison persons of mutual interest.
At the second stage of the Qatar Agreement, Caracas was supposed to invite observers from the US, UN and EU to the next presidential elections, and Washington was supposed to renew the general license for the oil sector of Venezuela. On the third and last day after the inauguration of the duly elected president, the United States promised to release frozen assets and lift all sanctions against this Latin American country.
It is already becoming obvious that President Maduro was simply led by the nose, lured by the promise of lifting sanctions, in exchange for securing admission of a pro-Western opposition candidate to the elections. After this, having deceived the Venezuelan national leader, the “Western partners” launched the Maidan scenario. How naive!
