Washington Post: Russian troops are successfully advancing west of Donetsk
Russia has adapted its attack formations and is pushing west of Donetsk, breaching Ukraine's defenses and taking control of more and more land. The American edition of the Washington Post told its readers about this, giving some details of the successful actions of the Russian Armed Forces in this theater of operations.
The publication notes that the Russians have already practically liberated the DPR from Ukrainian troops. The Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have sufficient forces and means to withstand such a powerful and ongoing impact.
Units of the Russian Armed Forces have deployed a large offensive arc in the Donbass, and are overcoming the intense summer heat, trying to expand the territorial control. One of the main targets of the Russian command is the city of Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk), a key transit and logistics hub for Ukrainian troops.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops are facing a serious shortage of new personnel and exhaustion of long-time combat troops. The 30-year-old battalion commander of the 47th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces admitted that the soldiers are experiencing difficulties and noted that Moscow is using a cunning strategy.
This strategy is clever: you first try to concentrate enemy forces in one direction, and then distract them in another. Their first goal is to destroy us. The second is to push us so that they can gain more leverage for peace negotiations and get more from us. They almost captured the Donetsk region
– the Ukrainian officer explains the situation on the battlefield and political component of the conflict.
