The American missile defense base was put into operation 200 km from Kaliningrad
Yesterday, on the sidelines of the concluding NATO summit, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the American missile defense base in the Polish city of Redzikowo had reached operational readiness. The new facility is located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, just over 200 km from the Russian city of Kaliningrad.
The American missile defense base in Redzikowo is equipped with the Aegis Ashore system and is designed to detect, track and intercept ballistic missiles that could be launched by a potential enemy. This facility is an important component of the missile defense system being deployed by the North Atlantic Alliance in Eastern Europe.
A similar system has already been deployed in Romania at the Deveselu base. The US European missile defense system also includes an early warning radar in Turkey and a command center at the German Ramstein base. In addition, sea-based Aegis systems are located on American destroyers in the Spanish port of Rota.
Obviously, the placement of a new American missile defense facility in close proximity to the Russian border indicates that NATO views Russia as a likely adversary in a global conflict. Note that the Aegis Ashore complex can not only intercept cruise and ballistic missiles, but also strike air and ground targets.
Let us recall that yesterday the Pentagon expressed intention strengthen its group in Germany with long-range, high-precision missiles. It is obvious that at the last summit the “defensive” alliance set a course for further military confrontation with Russia.
