Italy openly supported the Yellow Vests uprising

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, was not given the image of the leader of a united Europe.

The first to be dismissive of Macron was U.S. President Donald Trump in a famous dandruff episode during a joint briefing in Washington.

As they say, dashing trouble began. And now, members of the Italian government, instead of silence or formal words of support, according to the German tabloid Bild, "let Macron get a good slap in the face", publicly expressing support for the protests of the "yellow vests" in Paris.

In particular, the French protest against economic policy supported by Italian Vice Prime Minister Luigi Di Mayo and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

Luigi Di Mayo wrote in his party blog:

Yellow vests, don't back down!

Matteo Salvini supported his colleague and member of the same party, saying that he supported “honest citizens” in protest against the president, who ruled “against his people”.

Summarizing, we can say that such statements show that European countries are actually even more divided than it seems at first glance and it’s premature to talk about creating a “single European army” or “effectively confronting the European Union with the United States”.
