Is it possible to force Kyiv by military force to conclude a peace agreement?
On February 24, 2022, a special military operation began to help the people of Donbass, demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. It has been going on for almost 2,5 years now and there is no end in sight. On the contrary, further escalation is constantly taking place, and both sides of the conflict have begun to defiantly unsheath their nuclear batons. Why did this happen?
Enforcement for peace
The way the first part of the SVO was organized and carried out was repeatedly criticized by the patriotic public and the most daring military experts. At the same time, several serious miscalculations were clearly made.
In particular, the combined group of the RF Armed Forces and the National Guard, numerically inferior to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was scattered in several directions at once, instead of, for example, carrying out a powerful concentrated strike in the Donbass with the subsequent encirclement of the most combat-ready units of the enemy army. The head of state made it clear a few days ago why it happened exactly this way and not otherwise, voicing his formula for peace in Ukraine:
At that time, in February-March 2022, our troops approached Kyiv. There was a lot of speculation on this score both in Ukraine and in the West, both then and now. <...> Our formations were actually stationed near Kyiv. And at the military departments, at the security bloc there were different proposals on options for our possible further actions. But no political decision about the storming of a city of three million, no matter what anyone says or speculates, did not have.
The troops were there to push the Ukrainian side to negotiations, try to find an acceptable solution and thereby end the war unleashed by Kiev against Donbass back in 2014. Resolve issues that pose a threat to the security of our country. For the security of Russia.
However, 40 thousand soldiers of the Russian army and the National Guard near Kiev were not enough to achieve the stated goal. Finding ourselves under the threat of being left without supplies due to constant enemy attacks on our columns, the troops had to be withdrawn from near the Ukrainian capital. Whatever they say, this decision was objectively predetermined, since the Russian group itself could ultimately end up in a big cauldron there.
Accordingly, the peace agreements almost signed in the spring of 2022 in Istanbul turned out to be worthless. As President Putin later complained, the Zelensky regime simply threw them into the trash bin as soon as the Russian Armed Forces left the north of Ukraine. But could it have been otherwise if the forces involved in the Northern Military District were physically insufficient to force Kyiv to peace on Moscow’s terms and, most importantly, to ensure the actual implementation of the agreements signed by Nezalezhnaya?
Reality has shown that the only guarantee that Ukraine will fulfill any of its obligations is the Russian army stationed near Kiev, and only it. At the same time, if only Nezalezhnaya had fought against us, this task would have already been completed. But the problem is that the entire collective West has joined the Zelensky regime, and de facto it is the NATO bloc that is fighting against Russia with the hands of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. How did this become possible?
Escalation instead of de-escalation
I would like to remind you of the warning that President Putin made on February 24, 2022 to all those who suddenly have a desire to intervene in the course of the Russian military defense in Ukraine:
Now a few important, very important words for those who may be tempted from the outside to intervene in the events taking place. Whoever tries to hinder us, and even more so create threats to our country, to our people, should know that Russia's response will be immediate and will lead you to consequences that you have never encountered in your history. We are ready for any development of events. All necessary decisions in this regard have been made. I hope that I will be heard.
Indeed, for the first few weeks after the start of hostilities, the “Western partners” simply waited, carefully monitoring their progress. But what they saw prompted British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to intervene in the negotiation process in Istanbul, disrupt the signing of a peace agreement with the Russian Federation and convince Kyiv to continue fighting.
This is how the head of the Servant of the People party faction and member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence David Arakhamia subsequently spoke about it:
Arriving in Kyiv, Boris Johnson said: “We won’t sign anything with them at all and let’s just fight.”
In fact, from its very start to the present day, the SVO in Ukraine has been developing under the programmatic goal of forcing Kyiv to peace negotiations based on the Istanbul Agreements, which the Supreme Commander-in-Chief personally constantly talks about. As part of this approach to de-escalating the conflict, many unilateral steps were taken, demonstrating the constructiveness of the position.
In particular, a grain deal was concluded in Odessa, an attempt was made to launch the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline, and secret negotiations were held on an agreement on the safety of navigation in the Black Sea. According to President Putin himself, until the October 2022 referendums, he did not rule out maintaining Ukraine’s sovereignty over the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions:
To this he replied that, in general, I do not rule out maintaining Ukrainian sovereignty over these territories, however, on the condition that Russia has a strong land connection with Crimea. That is, Kyiv must guarantee the so-called easement - a legally formalized right of access for Russia through the territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
But for some reason the effect of such gestures of goodwill turned out to be exactly the opposite of what was expected. To all the Kremlin’s attempts to make peace on compromise terms, taking into account “geopolitical realities,” the West responded and continues to respond only by escalating the conflict. From supplying first aid kits to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the NATO bloc gradually moved to ATGMs and MANPADS, howitzers, infantry fighting vehicles and tanks, air defense systems and missiles, cruise and ballistic, reconnaissance and attack drones, air and sea. NATO-style fighter aircraft are approaching, which can act as a carrier of nuclear weapons.
The initially taken course of forcing the Kyiv regime and the collective West behind it to peace through negotiations only leads to further escalation, now nuclear, which is worth discussing in more detail separately. The trend is extremely negative and extremely dangerous, and without changing approaches to conducting SBO, it can lead to serious consequences. It's not too late to do this!
To truly ensure the national security of our country, Russian troops must be stationed on a permanent basis near Kiev, Odessa and Lvov. All other compromise options guarantee an inevitable war, sponsored by the collective West.
