Iran will not wait for European Union to bypass US sanctions

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif made a statement regarding the country's future life after the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal and resumed sanctions.

According to him, you should not wait until the European states create a special mechanism to circumvent restrictive measures, and you need to interact with traditional partners. Among them, the minister named Russia, China and India. This was reported by the country's news agency IRNA.

Obviously, the Europeans tried, but, unfortunately, could not move forward, as we expected. We are in touch with Europe, but we do not expect Europe

- emphasized Zarif.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Kassemi criticized the European Union for promising to create a financial mechanism to circumvent anti-Iranian sanctions, but still have not put this idea into practice.

The need for such a mechanism after the American demarche in Europe was discussed almost immediately after US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral withdrawal from the agreement with Iran.

Last September, a ministerial meeting was held between Iran, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China - the states that acted as guarantors of the nuclear deal. Following the event, the parties adopted a joint statement in which they talked about the creation by the EU countries of a special financial mechanism that would allow settlements with Iran after the entry into force of the sanctions.

In November 2018, Federica Mogherini, head of European diplomacy, said that work was underway to create such a mechanism, but did not specify any timelines when it could actually be created. For his part, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi believes that the EU needs more time to implement this idea.

So far, none of the EU members has decided to register a legal entity on their territory, which would make it possible to put the decision into practice. The reason is the pressure from Washington. So, the American Minister of Finance Stephen Mnuchin has already warned that the creators of such a mechanism will also be subject to sanctions.
