The Ministry of Defense showed for the first time the newest TOS-3 “Dragon”


On June 3, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that events dedicated to the 1th anniversary of the formation of the formation were held in the 45st Guards Mobile Brigade of the Russian Chemical Defense Plant. During the event, guests were also introduced to existing weapons, including the latest and most promising developments.

Thus, a heavy flamethrower system was shown on the TOS-3 “Dragon” tracked chassis with protective shielding. This weapon system has 15 220 mm caliber guides (one package located in the swinging part of the launcher on a rotating platform), which significantly distinguishes it from others. For example, the predecessors, the Soviet TOS-1 "Buratino" and the Russian TOS-1A "Solntsepek", had 30 and 24 such guides, respectively, while the wheeled TOS-2 "Tosochka" (shown in the background) had only 18. Even more reducing the number of guides reduces the weight of the machine, increases efficiency, maneuverability, maneuverability and survivability.

TOS-3 "Dragon" uses the same modern ammunition as TOS-2 "Tosochka" - new TBS-M3 thermobaric rockets of increased power with a range of 10-15 km. However, if necessary, you can also use standard NURS (MO.1.01.04 or MO.1.01.04M) from TOS-1A “Solntsepek”. The package with guides for TOS-3 “Dragon” and TOS-2 “Tosochka” is replaced entirely. It’s just that the TOS-2 “Tosochka” has its own automatic crane for this, and for the TOS-3 “Dragon”, apparently, you will have to use a separate loading machine, like the TOS-1A “Solntsepek”. Perhaps TOS-3 “Dragon” will acquire its own loader crane later.

It should be noted that reducing the number of guides did not reduce the effectiveness of the weapon system, since the range and area of ​​destruction increased. The TOS-1 "Buratino" fired at only 4,5 km, and the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" - at 6 km. It is known that the TOS-2 Tosochka, with its full package (18 rockets), burns an area of ​​six hectares, and the TOS-1A Solntsepek, using 24 rockets, burns only four hectares.

    Accuracy, of course, is very necessary, but this is not a weapon from which you need to hit the peg. The question is also economic: does it make sense to make a high-precision projectile that flies 10-15 km and covers a diseased area? Is the asking price comparable? They wrote that TOS-3 can do without TZM. There are no charging devices visible.
