Syrian Kurds are preparing to transfer the areas of Northern Syria under their control to the control of the Bashar al-Assad government. This became known after a delegation of Kurdish People’s Self-Defense Detachments led by Sipan Hemo visited Moscow and Damascus.

Kurds, Assad and Russia will give Syria a chance for unification

According to the Kurdish plan, after the withdrawal of parts of the American army to the north of Syria, government troops loyal to Damascus should enter. This is done solely in order to prevent the Turkish armed forces from invading Syrian Kurdistan. Indeed, in Ankara they have repeatedly stated that the Turkish army is ready to conduct a military operation against the “terrorists," as the Syrian Kurds are called in Turkey.

The main condition for the admission of government troops to Syrian Kurdistan is the recognition by Damascus autonomy of the Kurds and non-interference in their internal affairs. But such a situation, apparently, is now convenient for both Kurdish leaders and Bashar al-Assad. Moreover, the Kurds agreed to the introduction of government troops only if the deal was guaranteed by Russia.

If Turkish troops nevertheless invade the territory of Syrian Kurdistan, this will mean aggression against Syria. Such a situation will inevitably lead to the intervention of Moscow. Therefore, now Recep Erdogan was in a very delicate situation.

On the other hand, if the Kurds and Assad really agree, then this will be a serious step towards the unification of Syria, which has been torn by civil war for more than eight years. By the way, the Kurds and Assad have deep ideological contradictions far less than Assad with the same radical fundamentalists. And if Damascus gives the Kurds autonomy, the latter may well become its reliable allies.
