In Russia, "open" the human genome
It is difficult to overestimate research in the field of the human genome. The knowledge obtained can be directed to personalized medicine - prevention of the development of pathologies and treatment, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient's body. An important part of this research is the study of genetic mutations. It is for these purposes that the Skolkovo Innovation Center is developing the first device in Russia for decoding the human genome.
According to the developers, thanks to the decoding of DNA, doctors will be able to determine the optimal treatment methods, as well as select the most effective drugs for each patient, taking into account his individual predispositions to diseases or entire groups of diseases.
It is expected that the domestic device will be 10 times cheaper than foreign analogues. Nadezhda Matveeva, managing partner of the GAMMA-DNA company, which is developing the device, told Izvestia in an interview that the main consumers of this device should be medical institutions, dispensaries, as well as diagnostic and perinatal centers. In addition, she noted that similar devices are in demand in the work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and they are already being used in forensics. The project budget includes about 500 million rubles, and it is planned to be completed within 4 years.
