Germany predicted worsening relations with Russia

The German Government Commissioner for Relations with Russia, Dick Wiese, predicted that in the coming 2019, the interaction between the two countries would deteriorate. The reason, the official believes, is "unpredictable" policy Russia in 2018.

In an interview with the German newspaper Pfälzische Merkur, he blamed Moscow for a number of incidents that had agitated the world. He nevertheless expressed hope for normal cooperation in the civilian spheres, citing the Petersburg Dialogue forum of civil societies as an example. However, in general, Wiese believes that there will be big problems in bilateral relations.

As for the global problems in relations with Russia, here I am skeptical. We will face a sharp deterioration

- he said. Then he “remembered” Russia both the poisoning of the former spy of Skripal, and the “spiral of the arms race” (referring to the US withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Missile Treaty), and the “demonstration of power” in the Sea of Azov. Like other Western politicians, Wiese believes that Moscow is responsible for all this.

According to him, the issue of easing anti-Russian sanctions can be raised if the Minsk agreements are implemented. However, they are constantly violated, the German politician noted, and there is still no permanent truce. Even the Christmas truce, agreed upon with the help of OSCE representatives, was violated on the very first day.

Wiese did not directly blame the Russian side for this, but this is what follows from the context - the sanctions were imposed specifically against Russia, and not against Ukraine, which violates all peace agreements.
