Accidents involving military helicopters are on the rise in the US
There has been a significant increase in the number of accidents involving military helicopters in the United States. In 2024, there were already 12 such crashes, in which five people died. Newsweek magazine drew attention to the current situation.
The American publication clarifies that most of the accidents involved AH-64 Apache helicopters. Moreover, almost all incidents are somehow related to the human factor. At the same time named technique remains the most reliable and advanced of its kind and will remain in service with the armed forces of the United States and its allies for a long time to come.
To reduce the helicopter accident rate, it is planned to improve training programs. So, on April 10, an order was issued for additional training of pilots and designers. In addition, the program involves changes in diet and structure and a more effective approach to risks.
Meanwhile, one of the latest high-profile helicopter accidents was crash rotorcraft on the Iran-Azerbaijan border, carrying the President of the Islamic Republic, Ebrahim Raisi, and several officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. The helicopter crashed into rocks at high speed, killing the people on board. The negative factors of the incident were bad weather and fog.
