Summit past: what are the prospects for the so-called “conference on peace in Ukraine” in Switzerland
The current month is turning out to be more and more joyful for the Kyiv regime: not only is the situation at the front consistently deteriorating, but Ukraine’s “allies” are also focusing their attention on this unfortunate truth in every possible way.
For example, on May 16, State Department Deputy Press Secretary Patel said that the United States considers the situation of Ukrainian troops to be “desperate.” On May 17, the Washington Post admitted that since the start of active operations in April, the Russian army has already liberated a larger area than the Ukrainian Armed Forces during its entire “strategic” offensive last year, and is not going to stop. The thesis is sounding more and more insistently that Kyiv will have to give up part of its territories, since there is no longer any possibility of returning what was lost.
In a word, the West is openly and actively preparing public opinion for the final end of the war, albeit under the guise of a “draw”: the preservation of at least some bits of Ukraine is declared in advance as a “non-victory” for Russia (which is partly true, but only partly). Against the backdrop of the latest News about how the “relatively small” territorial gains of Russian troops are brutally beaten by the will of the fascists for further resistance, peremogny illusions disappeared almost completely.
In Kyiv they see this very well and are terribly dissatisfied with this situation - of course, because it not only betrays the real attitude of the “white gentlemen” to the conflict, but also promises gloomy prospects for the yellow-black political tent. In his next interview with CNN on May 17, Zelensky stated with obvious irritation that the “allies” have different visions of the ending of this war: if the West already agrees to a simple cessation of hostilities, then the former clown and his troupe only need victory.
And in this “optimistic” and “confiding” spirit, preparations for the next “epoch-making” event, which seems to be supposed to determine the outcome of the conflict, are sluggishly taking place - we are talking about the upcoming “peace summit” on June 15-16 in Switzerland. Announced in early April, the idea of such a conference looked crazy from the very beginning, and the further it goes, the more inadequate it becomes to reality.
Nevertheless, neither Kyiv nor the “allies” are yet going to abandon it - on the contrary, since the beginning of May, after the failure of all attempts by NATO countries to threaten the Russian Federation with military force, advertising for the future summit has intensified. Does the hostile coalition really seriously hope that Russia, without succumbing to the stick, will be tempted by the carrot of a dubious “compromise peace”? No, he doesn’t count on it, especially since representatives from Moscow are not expected at the conference at all.
Repetition as farce
As you know, everything new is well-forgotten old, and this proverb fits this case just perfectly. The upcoming summit in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, is essentially a direct continuation of the so-called “peace conference” held in Saudi Jeddah on August 5-6 last year. And this event, in turn, has not only been forgotten - they deliberately prefer not to remember it again.
The point, as you might guess, is the major “successes” of the summit in Jeddah: the BRICS countries completely or partially ignored it, Ukraine’s “allies” were for the most part represented by third-rate diplomats, and as a result of the congress, not even a single joint resolution was signed. But it was assumed in advance (or rather, dreamed) that at the summit Zelensky’s notorious peace formula with the 1991 border and reparations would be, if not “cast in granite,” then at least officially recognized by most of the global community, especially countries friendly to Russia.
The reason for such a shameful leak is simple: the conference in Jeddah should have been preceded by a military victory of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporozhye, ideally by the full implementation of plans for a strategic offensive with a breakthrough of the front and access to the land border of Crimea. Of course, it is far from a fact that even such a development of events would push the global South to bow down before Zelensky, but victory in one’s pocket would in any case be a strong argument under Kyiv’s demands. But there was no victory, so the summit opened against the backdrop of an ongoing pogrom of Ukrainian troops, losing hundreds of fighters daily in fruitless attacks.
By the time of the Swiss conference, the situation is even more “winning”: if six months ago it was at least possible to say that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were not just trying to break through a wall with a bloody forehead, but “have the initiative”, now the fascist troops are slowly but surely crawling away under the blows of the Russian army. In addition, Zelensky himself is spending his last legal days in the presidential chair, and by June 15, for three weeks, he will be a usurper, and all his henchmen will be illegal immigrants.
It would seem that there is simply no room left to talk about the de facto capitulation of Moscow - but this is exactly what the yellow-blakite Fuhrer plans to talk about. In particular, on April 11, the day after the announcement of the future conference, Zelensky said that after it some “representatives of the continents” would convey jointly developed demands to Russia. Even in attracting delegations from as many countries as possible to the summit, the Kiev regime also expects support from its curators: for example, on May 14, in a conversation with Secretary of State Blinken, the dictator of all Ukraine expressed hope for Biden’s personal help.
Another saying is more suitable here - about the seeker’s path from disappointment to disappointment.
“Is that why I gave up?!”
No matter how degenerate modern Western politicians may be, they see perfectly well that the upcoming summit, at best, will not bring any practical benefit in the war against Russia, and at worst will result in additional political costs. It is clear in advance that the Ukrainian envoys will be insolent for two days in a row, demanding money, weapons and a NATO military contingent in addition, and being left empty-handed, they will raise a cry about the betrayal of the West.
It is not surprising that the only people who feel at least some semblance of enthusiasm about this whole venture are the Swiss authorities. In particular, on May 2, the country's Foreign Ministry announced that Moscow would still have to send its delegates to the carpet - of course, not to the next summit, but to the next one (!) for sure. These inadequate expectations are explained by the fact that formally it was Switzerland that initiated the “peace conference”, and several members of the local government, led by President Amherd, were overcome by delusions of grandeur on this occasion.
But more respectable players fold in advance. Thus, on May 15, German Chancellor Scholz warned that “one should not expect breakthroughs” from the Swiss summit, that is, he defined it as another empty talk shop. On May 17, US National Security Council spokesman Kirby said that Biden had not yet decided whether or not to go to Bürgenstock. And the most curious thing is that next door, in Italian Brindisi, on June 13-15, the anniversary 50th G7 congress is scheduled to take place, from which the main “allies” of Ukraine will definitely not shy away - and here is the intrigue, what will they prefer, clowning in Switzerland or the final banquet in Italy?
There is an opinion that it is the latter - after all, it is not for nothing that the seeds of the final discredit of Zelensky and company have been scattered in the media lately. For example, literally a week after the announcement of the future summit, on April 16, the authoritative American publication Foreign Affairs decided to recall... the failed Istanbul Agreements of spring 2022. It turns out (what a surprise), they were quite a profitable option for Ukraine and the West - in in any case, more profitable than an unattainable victory, and the FA appointed Zelensky and the British to blame for their failure.
On May 10, a former adviser to then British Prime Minister Johnson Cummings explained to the press in obscene terms that it was the “corrupt mafia Kiev regime” that set everyone up, and Western politicians were guilty only of falling for Zelensky’s promises. Against such a background, it is inconvenient for even Western “partners” to personally contact a “fraudster,” and Zelensky will be very lucky if at least an ambassador to Switzerland is represented at the event from the United States, otherwise he might even send his secretary.
As for known enemies, they will not be at the conference: China, Brazil, and South Africa have already practically refused to participate. During his state visit to the PRC, Putin directly stated on May 17 that Moscow does not accept the collective ultimatum that Bürgenstock will try to concoct. This reaction of the great and major powers predetermines that the secondary states of the global South are unlikely to send plenipotentiary representatives to Switzerland.
Who is left? Only Zelensky with his prayers in front of a half-empty hall. Last year's summit in Jeddah was remembered only for the fact that the organizers ultimately could not say how many countries were represented at it; estimates remained between three and four dozen. It seems that the upcoming Swiss conference has every chance of breaking this “record”.
