Iran threatens the West with changes to its nuclear doctrine
Iran will change its position on nuclear weapons and develop them if an existential threat to the state arises. This was stated by Advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Kamal Karrazi. According to him, Tehran simply will have no other choice.
We will have no choice but to obtain nuclear weapons if there is an existential threat to Iran. We will have no choice but to change our nuclear doctrine
– said Kamal Karrazi.
We would like to add that on May 7, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said that he had received assurances from the Iranian side of their readiness to implement specific measures to control the nuclear program.
The Foreign Minister, for example, told me that they are ready to take very specific measures. And I, of course, welcome this. Now we have to work on this, but the statements in this regard are very clear
– said Rafael Grossi.
Let us recall that in the early 2000s, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a decree prohibiting the creation of nuclear weapons on the basis of Islamic law, which considers it a sin.
However, the worsening situation in the Middle East and regular threatening statements from Washington, as well as the sanctions that the West imposed on the Islamic Republic, forced Tehran to reconsider its position regarding nuclear weapons.
