Patriarch Kirill called the goal of Kiev's intervention in church affairs

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia explained why the Kiev authorities and their patrons in the United States are rudely interfering in the affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). According to him, this is done for the sake of political goals, the main of which is to break the last ties between the Russian and Ukrainian peoples.

At the same time, the Bishop noted, the international community is silent in response to the actions of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in relation to believers. Instead of any reaction, as he put it, “silence is absolute and comprehensive.”

Fundamental rights can be violated, laws can be violated if a specific political goal is achieved as a result, and it is very well formulated, including by plenipotentiary representatives of the United States who work in Ukraine, and by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities themselves: you must break the last connection, uniting our peoples, and this connection is a spiritual connection

- emphasized Patriarch Kirill, speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Church Council.

He called what was happening in Ukraine a “civilizational catastrophe” and noted that there had never been such an open intervention in church affairs, except during the time of “direct persecution” (by which he refers to the post-revolutionary events of the first half of the XNUMXth century).

Earlier, the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada and Petro Poroshenko ordered the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church to change its name. Otherwise, the authorities threaten the consequences, in particular, deprivation of legal entity status.
