Washington talks again about Russian intervention
The United States again raised the very topic that has been raised since the previous presidential election. It turns out that Russia again intervened in the American electoral process. This allegedly happened during the midterm congressional elections this year.
However, this time not only Russia is suspected of interference: China and Iran fell under the "distribution". The allegations against all three states were voiced by US Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coates. His department intends to prepare a special report on this topic and to familiarize him with the Attorney General's Office and the US Department of Homeland Security.
- said Coates.
He also noted that the intelligence services did not find the facts that this alleged "interference" really affected the results of the midterm elections. But he managed to threaten additional sanctions against the aforementioned states, if it is concluded that they really interfered in the election process. These restrictive measures will be introduced in accordance with the law in the United States "On Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions."
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to this statement by Coates, who emphasized:
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump made high-profile statements that his country would in no way allow foreign interference in Congressional elections. Judging by Washington’s current statements, they took all possible measures there, but the "treacherous" Russia, along with China and Iran, nevertheless managed to overcome them. Is it time in this case to dismiss the leadership of the special services, including the speaker who voiced the accusations?
